The studios are shit scared of 300. This is definately looking at 8 Mile territory now - $50m+

Shooter did need to move - but a Wednesday opening is a joke. But atleast it gets away from St Patricks Day. The March schedule is a mess.

- No counterprogramming for 300 (perhaps because its tracking well with femmes as Libs reported)
- a glut of product at the end of the month

Reign Over Me and/or TMNT should move into Shooter's spot and Shooters should move a further two days to the Friday.

Interesting. Maybe it's a rare sci-fi movie with Oscar prospects.

Or they just saw the overwhelmingly positive response Children of Men got by many people with a December opening.

Yeah that's what I think Fox is on - once the early reviews started to roll in saying the film was pretty damn great, they figured that a December opening could at least get it some technicals. Also, Children of Men being released everywhere but America first helped it gain some much needed buzz that they believe Sunshine could use.

well, actually, HSX has it's new date listed at Septmeber 30th, 2007. Since it's an exact date, it's more than likely the correct one for now... and a good move, because I don't think they have done enough promotion to open this thing in just two weeks from now.. finally, a good scheduling decision is made!

I'd trust ComingSoon.net over HSX, but Sept. 30th would be a better day.

September 30th is HSX's placeholder date for "September 2007"

BOM also had it listed as a March release far longer than ComingSoon.net. Either way, I don't think Fox Searchlight is really that sure where to put it quite yet, and I would take any listed date with a grain of salt for the moment.

Shooter's official site says March 23, not 21. That would make a lot more sense, though that date is really pretty crowded.

Re-read the past few posts and you should be able to figure it out. Fixed it anyways.

Yup, looks like Shooter is being released on March 23. At least it makes a little more sense than Wednesday.

According to ComingSoon.net, Fox Searchlight has decided on a September 14th release date for Sunshine.

Smart move for Speed Racer. Now it will have breathing room.

After the success of 300 I have a feeling that Warner Bros might release 10,000 B.C. on March 7, 2008.

Those four are great, but I'll doubt they'll outgross this May's crop of blockbusters.

It will probably hinge on who wins out on IMAX in 2008.

Fox would likely want HORTON HEARS A WHO in IMAX on March 14th. WB will undoubtedly want 10,000 B.C. in IMAX. The catch being that really the closest IMAX releases can happen is a month apart for them to be profitable.

If Fox decides against IMAX on HORTON then yeah, it would be silly for WB not to take a 300 equivalent date.

THE DARK KNIGHT (Chris Nolan is absolutely in love with the format), SPEED RACER (Wachowskis and Joel Silver are also absolutely in love with the format), WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE (Tom Hanks who is producing is also absolutely in love with the format) and HARRY POTTER 6 (all the others) are near sure things for the format.

An alternative that could work is HORTON HEAR'S A WHO in IMAX on March 14th, 10,000 B.C. in IMAX on April 11th, SPEED RACER on MAY 9TH, A June release, THE DARK KNIGHT in Mid July.

Granted, April 11th isn't a great date, but that would solve the overlap problem.

An alternative could also be to let Fox have JUMPER in IMAX if it really is the "first in a trilogy" in lieu of HORTON.

Ya i can see that happening.

But does 10000 B.C. have big hunky guys. 300 would have never done 70 million if it wasn't for that. Women watched it for the well built men.

if 10000 B.C. has that i think it will be huge and it better be R rated. Now i expect all such movies aka 300 type war, history action movies to be R rated.

Gladiator was great story wise, acting wise and action wise too.
Troy sucked
King arthur sucked
Alexander sucked
Kingdom of heaven sucked
300 was meh story wise, ok acting wise (only gerard was good) but it was absolutely kick ass an much more cooler than gladiator action wise.

All were R rated movies but most sucked.

here is hoping that Gates of fire and hannibal are R rated and shot in similar style as 300.

What could possibly be the reason for moving it to Thursday? Like, seriously.

WB did something similar with Miss Congeniality 2 two years ago on Easter Weekend.
