Loving this! So many unexpected but, by all accounts, choices that deserve to be pushed.

Well, they're showing much love for GBG, and it's Boston....so I think so.

Wouldn't that be almost TOO obvious hometown pride? At least The Departed n Mystic River were bigtime contenders. Also he won the "New Filmmaker" award already, so also giving him Director would be kinda rude-ish.

ETA: Nevermind. It appears they really liked Diving Bell, as Director and Picture match 2 out of 3 times with them.

I wonder if Janusz Kaminski could be the lone director nom at the Oscars this year. Kinda like Fernando Meirelles at the 2004 Oscars.

Peace,
Mike

Sicko is not a good doc

Front Page says so.

The last time a Foreign Language Fim won Picture (Ran in 1985), they have out an award for "Best American Film." Maybe they'll do the same here for Diving Bell?

The Diving Bell has to win foreign, right? And maybe they announce it last because it's really their favorite film of the year.

I think if Diving Bell wasn't a lock for Foreign to them they would have given BP to it

Big winners here - Diving Bell and Langella. NCFOM and Ryan are also beginning to show signs of massive support. Ratatouille also had a nice notice that SOME people will take it seriously this awards season.

I have.
It's one of the best films I've seen in years, but not the most fun to watch. So it only came in as my #5 of the year. The cinematography is superb, and the direction is some of the best, most inspired work I've ever seen. The film is revolutionary.

Great for Schnabel and Langella. I think Schnabel has emerged as the strongest "BD without BP" nominee, now that Burton will probably get a Picture nod and Scott is effed. Langella is also in my top 5 for BA.

I'm beginning to think nobody has actually seen There Will Be Blood. Maybe the studio intentionally left it in the cold so they could push No Country for all they've got.

So this means they saw Blood and just didn't vote for it, unless they marked down Lewis' name because of the trailer.

These have a REALLY awesome track record for wins, in terms of coolness. Observe.

Coolness indeed. I mean, one of the few groups to award Brian Cox's brilliant (and his very best) performance in L.I.E.?

I'm not surprised to hear that, seeing as it's directed by a still-artist, meaning the things he probably does with visuals in this film simply trump anything guys like Spielberg or Cameron could ever come up with...in the sense of cinematic beauty, at least.
