But the movie bombed horribly and his buzz has died way down since September-ish.

Actor/ess nominees don't have to be from financially significant films, his "buzz" (as far as I can see of those Oscar articles that pop up on news sites from time to time... honestly, what do any of us fucking know about buzz, what we hear from Variety or other people on Oscarwatch or Gold Derby? Who are we fooling?) has actually stayed significantly higher (due to his star power probably).

He won't win of course.

Pitt will only be nommed if he goes supporting. Actor is way too strong, and Supporting Actor is pretty weak.

I agree, there's too much competition in Actor. Lewis, Hanks, Depp, Washington, Del Toro, Viggo, Jones, McAvoy, Langella, Hoffman, Hirsch. Too much.
