 Enchanted Enchanted Quote: Enchanted is a 2007 American fantasy-musical film, produced and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures in association with Barry Sonnenfeld and Josephson Entertainment. Written by Bill Kelly and directed by Kevin Lima, the film stars Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, Timothy Spall, Idina Menzel, Rachel Covey, and Susan Sarandon. It premiered on October 20, 2007, at the London Film Festival before its wide release on November 21, 2007, in the United States.
This is the first Disney movie to be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures instead of Buena Vista, due to Disney semi-retiring the name in May 2007, making all other future Disney movies permanently distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
The plot focuses on Giselle, an archetypal Disney Princess, who is forced from her traditional animated world of Andalasia into the live-action world of New York City. The film is both an homage to, and a self-parody of, conventional Walt Disney Animated Classics, making numerous references to Disney's past and future works through the combination of live action filmmaking, traditional animation and computer-generated imagery. It heralds the return of traditional animation to a Disney feature film after the company's decision to move entirely to computer animation in 2004. Composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz, who had written songs for previous Disney films, produced the songs of Enchanted, with Menken also composing its score.
Enchanted was well-received critically, and received two nominations at the 65th Golden Globe Awards and three nominations at the 80th Academy Awards. The film earned more than $340 million worldwide at the box office.

Re: Enchanted One of the utterly delightful films in years. Amy Adams is phenomenal here and gives the year's best female performance so far. Her warm, adorable and charismatic performance makes this film nothing short of irresistible. Everything about her performance is perfect, as is this film. A new favorite of mine for sure. Disney is back.

Re: Enchanted A definite A from me! Loved, loved, loved it! I'm hoping to go see it again. I might try to go Friday night; I love watching movies with a full audience, and this movie is definitely an audience-pleaser. The laughter and applause at the screening was great (yes, we had applause--at the end of the movie, as expected, but also at the end of the "That's How You Know" sequence).
Grade: big, solid A

Re: Enchanted Amy Adams deserves to win Best Actress at the Oscars this year. I don't care what anyone says. She singlehandedly makes this movie an instant classic. I can't get over how FANTASTIC she was.

Re: Enchanted It's hardly a classic. The early scenes in New York are kinda wonky, the first Shrek has already covered this terrain, and the climax is a bit...lacking. The opening animation also felt somewhat cheap and not fully realized, which was weird.
Still, it's very funny and Amy Adams is masterful in an incredibly difficult role. It's worth seeing if only to have her pull at your heartstrings for a while. She owns.

As a matter of fact, it wasn't even up to the pedestrian level of implementation - - it is downright lazy. And what a waste, considering the brilliant story idea (which of course, will be enuf to seduce 83% of it's audience), and the pivotally magnificent performance of Amy Adams!
The initial cartoon and the first half hour in NY are splendiferous (as Giselle might describe it), but then the whole middle section goes all soft and flabby - - YOW!!!
A very unfortunate misfire.
BAD.

Turns out, the animation was outsourced, so it wasn't actually produced by Disney animators (not surprising, since they'd all been "let go" by Eisner). I'm imagining (hoping) that Princess and the Frog won't be outsourced. Joy

Re: Enchanted Don't expect something amazing, it's just a very sweet little movie. I was kinda hoping for something more "epic", but this was great too. It gets funnier as it goes along, so don't worry if you don't like the first quarter. Everyone's spot on here except for Susan Surandon, who talks way too much and isn't that threatening even as a non-flying talking dragon. All in all, a good date movie.

Yeah, I know that was supposed to be his character - - but that guy has zero charm - - too bad they didn't get James Marsden to play that role... ...and Susan Sarandon was outright wasted - - they shoulda been developing her character more consistently throughout the movie... ...up until the Central Park musical number, it was going great, but after that it went straight down the toilet to blandsville...

Re: Enchanted Hmm....this movie could have been an instant classic had it had a better script. The script was good, but not great, which held the movie back from its full potential.
Also, I wish they had somehow given Idina Menzel (Nancy) something to sing, as she happens to have one of the best voices around (I don't know why they'd even want her in the movie if they weren't giving her a singing part to begin with).
Amy Adams was very good, but not the revelation many have declared her to be.
All around, and enjoyable holiday film that could have been great.

Re: Enchanted Idina Menzel originally had a duet with James Marsden called "Enchanted" that was supposed to appear at the end of the film, but it was removed from the final cut. It will be on the DVD.

Even though I believe what people say, and do want to see it, I can't imagine in my head how it could really be good enough to have a better RT rating than "The Departed" or "Spider-man 2," for example. I mean, does it really do for its genre what those two films did for theirs?

Re: Enchanted It's pretty fucking delightful. I offered to take my little sister, since it wouldn't start til almost ten and I didn't think she'd go for it, but she did, and I'm pretty glad she did. Dunno that I would have seen it otherwise.
The story's fine. It seems to enjoy the fact that it was (able to be) completely cliche and over the top. The acting is fine. No one really lags behind, except, of course, when compared with Amy Adams. She's just about as good as everyone is saying. I think a whole whole lot of the charm comes from her character, which is one of the more adorable, memorable things in years. But she's definitely a sight to behold. Even the CG stuff is pretty convincing.
I dunno. It's just kinda great. Everything that's wonderful about cinema and imagination and stories compacted into this fun and funny 100 minutes.
And the whole Central Park number (How does she know, or something) is one of the best sequences all year. (As is the climactic dance near the end. Really beautiful).

Re: Enchanted I loved it. I had such a good time the whole movie. Amy Adams gives the most perfect performance, I swear; Enchanted should rightfully catapult her into full-fledged stardom. Patrick Dempsey is his usual low-key, appealing self. James Marsden is delightful for the second movie in a row after Hairspray. Susan Sarandon looks to be having a lot of fun and Timothy Spall is also fun. The only casting blip is Idina Menzel, who is underutilized and not terribly charismatic (she was also flat in Rent, so I'm not sure she's meant for film). The "That's How You Know" scene in Central Park may be my favorite scene in a movie all year. It has some parts where it lags and some of it is a bit overdone, which is all that's keeping me from giving it an A. So much fun. A-
