Very very very overated. Made some very good stuff with Jackie Brown and Kill Bill, but not enough so far and I still see him more as a great writer than a director.

Yep. And I'm not apologizing for it, either. I've loved all of his films.

Maybe if he would buy a tripod I'd like his films better. You'd think he could afford not to film every scene with a wobbly hand held camera by now, wouldn't you?

I absolutely hate when people use that line. Because there's absolutely no aesthetic value to shaky cam, right?

Besides, Shyamalan's camera is incredibly static compared to, say, Paul Greengrass.

Shaky Cam sections are one of the main reasons Bloody Sunday is one of the greatest films ever made.

Haven't seen that (I will! :P), but the latter two Bourne movies and even United 93 benefit a lot from the shaky cam. It may not be enjoyable for everybody to watch, but it has nothing to do with not being able to afford a tripod. Not every director needs to have static, staged shots.

Depends on how it's used. In Dr. Strangelove, for instance, there is absolutely no shaky cam (this is Kurbrick after all) except in the battle scenes, where it makes perfect sense and adds to the excitement of the battle.

If two people are sitting at a table talking, I would rather not be distracted by the fact that the camera seems to be held by a drunk monkey.

Basically, anything that distracts from the story is bad. That also includes, in my mind, overly artistic shots as well, when you are saying "Wow, look at the filming technique" instead of thinking about the story or the actors.

Mike have you seen Bloody Sunday? I reccomend it in regards to seeing where the shaky cam method is positive in its results.

I can see both sides of this.

I guess I am always frustrated when I see lists of "Best Comedies" and the #1 is always something like "Some Like It Hot" which, while funny (and definitely well made), is not a fall on the floor laugh fest like, for instance, "South Park" is.

Will the ignorance on these boards never stop? Some Like it Hot is 1000 times funnier than South Park

You had Verhoeven, Raimi, Mendes, Singer and Fincher in your top 20? I'm shocked...

Just goes to show how subjective humor is, I guess. I've seen certain movies that are supposed to be side-splitting hilarious and I just watch blankly, and I've cracked up over things other people are scratching their heads at.

"Some Like it Hot" is a great film, on my top 100 list for sure, and very funny, but I wasn't laughing out loud watching it like I was with "South Park."

I haven't seen Some Like It Hot, but yeah, very few movies beat South Park for laughs. 'Cept maybe Team America. And the Holy Grail/Airplane.
