That's something I probably would stay away from.

There are a lot of movies I haven't seen and wouldn't want their endings spoiled for me. (trying to catch up via netflix. This week knocked down The Third Man (excellent), Rope (very good), next week ... M for Murder!)

This ranking could only be explained by people being thankful that he had the grace to spare us with a film the last ten years

I think doing scores is more feasible than composers.

Score would just put movies with the most recognizable themes on top. Lots of John Williams, Hans Zimmer et al. would be the result

Considering the high ranking Shyamalan got, please don't...

I know Price and I were talking about doing genres. Best Action/Horror/Comedy etc. I think that could be fun. Obviously it would only be top 25 or 50, though.

I think genres would be good. I could come up with 25 or 50 of those (depending on genre, of course).
Maybe decade specific lists or something (top 100 films of the 90s, top X performances of the 70s.)
Scenes would be cool too, but I think only if we just use my list. That'd have too much variation, I think, and not enough consensus. Plus, I agree it might be too spoilerish.

With this userbase, I think we're gonna have problems coming up with many good lists, beyond what we have and a few other "simple" ones. I know a site that did a top 100 Japanese movies recently, and the list is fascinating...but stuff like that just wouldn't work here.

7. Ang Lee - 43
8. Hal Hartley - MISSED
9. Brian DePalma - 22
10. Tim Burton - 14
11. Ridley Scott - 11

13. Robert Zemeckis - 8
14. Peter Weir - 29

16. Stanley Kubrick - 3

I think that would be great. At last a list where vitriol is a positive aspect to proceedings!!

But it should be "worst major studio movies" or something, or otherwise it will be full of obvious worst movies, like "Plan 9 From Outer Space" and so on. There are just so many bad low budget exploitation films that are out there, after all. I'd much rather see a list which includes "Armageddon" and "Showgirls" and such.

I'd assume it would be a mix. I mean I'd have films like Saw 2 along with obscure horrors of cinema like Omega Doom.

Plan 9 I'd leave out oddly since I found it hilarious.

Yeah but if you include crappy stuff like Omega Doom -- which never had any pretentions of being a serious, real movie picture -- it opens the door too wide. There are literally thousands of terrible low budget B movies that would qualify.

Its actually easier for me to forgive a B movie, so when I end up hating it I know its truly the spawn of Satan. Hell I even give movies like Fortress (a shinying beacon of B movie sci-fi cheese) a B!!

I'd assume we'd work from a list draw up before hand and maybe be allowed i dunno 5 write in chocies each, that would cut down the randomness.

'Most overrated films' wil lead to far too much bloodshed, I promise you.

Worst major studio releases sounds like a winner, though!

I can't be the only one not interested in a worst movies list at all, right?

I mean, yknow? "100 - Envy. 75 - Gigli. 54 - Citizen Kane. 18 - Spice World." What the fuck ever. That sounds terribly boring. : (
