Shack! Temple of Doom is the best action/adventure picture ever made!

Don't listen to trixster, although he is decidedly right when he says that it's "needlessly gross, and over-the-top silly." Fuckin' A!

Shack, don't listen to Yoshue!

Temple of Doom is a horrible movie. F worthy.

I'm firmly in yoshue's camp here (shocking, I know). Temple is the best Indy film, and one of Spielberg's best period.

Shack! Don't listen to Squee!

He's just upset that he's seen so few movies that Mission Impossible is one of his 100 favorites by what-I-can-only-assume-is-default. :P

What frustrating about Temple, and telling about Spielberg, is the way he is always criticizing and apologizing for ToD. He thinks he made it too scary.

How the fuck can an supernatural adventure film be too frightening? The modern Spielberg is a man entirely without balls or youthful instincts. It shows in his lifeless movies. And it's why Indy 4 is to be feared.

I don't think it's too scary, I just think it's poorly made in general. And I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that Indy 4 will suck, but probably because of Lucas, not Spielberg.

But Lucas has never been the driving creative force of these films, and he isn't now. It's easy and comfortable and often correct to blame Lucas for things that suck, but the responsibility here is all Spielberg's.

Well, he did turn down the script that Spielberg and Ford both loved, so he's obviously got some influence. And I never really trust sequels with such a huge gap in time from the last one. Especially ones in which Lucas is involved in any shape or form.

We need a new list to make! Any ideas?

Screenwriters? Maybe a Top 50?

Nah, that's too hard. Writers aren't nearly as well known as directors. The top thirty or so will just all end up being director/writers.

We could do screenwriters, but I think it's a bit thorny. They'll be a heavy emphasis on writer/directors, because they're simply well-known, and guys like Chris Nolan and Peter Jackson will still be near the top, rendering the project useless, I fear.

Cinematography?
Scores?
Comedies(this, I fear, will make my head bleed)?

Or perhaps, a list of films 101-200, omitting those that we've already listed?

I'd like us to do one that will have some varieties, not just the same copy of people's favorite films, so screenplay is out. Was thinking about score, but not sure if 100 is too many for that. Love to see a foreign language film list, but we won't get enough votes on that here.

When you say scores, are you talking about film composers or actual film scores? Both lists are doable, but film scores would be easier although I think maybe a little predictable.

I think doing scores is more feasible than composers.

Scenes might not be a bad idea, though it'd be obvious what would come on top, I am your father and the Raiders opening.

I would have to submit a ballot even less abundent than the one I sent for directors (65) for scores.

Unless they are reaaaaallly good (Requiem) or reeeeeaallly bad (Troy), a lot of the time I don't even really notice the score. And I don't feel like listening to a bunch of scores as research.

Nah, the shower scene from Psycho could be right up there.

I think someone suggested earlier doing a list of a certain genre, like 50 best horror movies or something like that.

Scenes is a bit, I don't know... would be really hard to narrow it down to certain scenes, would also be filled with spoilers for a bunch of movies a bunch of people may not have seen.

What about top 100 endings? We could define endings as the final scene or two? That could be fun!
