 Rushmore
Rushmore Quote: Rushmore is a 1998 comedy-drama film directed by Wes Anderson about an eccentric teenager named Max Fischer (Jason Schwartzman), his friendship with rich industrialist Herman Blume (Bill Murray), and their mutual love for elementary school teacher Rosemary Cross (Olivia Williams). The film was co-written by Anderson and Owen Wilson. The soundtrack was scored by regular Anderson collaborator Mark Mothersbaugh and features several songs by bands associated with the British Invasion of the 1960s.
The movie helped launch the careers of Anderson and Schwartzman, while establishing a "second career" for Murray as a respected actor of independent cinema. Rushmore also won Best Director and Best Supporting Male awards at the 1999 Independent Spirit Awards while Murray earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture.

 Re: Rushmore
Enjoyably quirky. It's not the script so much as the actors that really makes it witty and funny. Murray is fantastic and Jason Schwartzman, who I've never seen in anything, manages to make an annoying character non-annoying, if that's possible. The story is strange and wacky and all over the place, and seems to exist merely to allow these characters to exhibit their bizarre personalities as much as possible. And it works, as I laughed a lot more than I thought I would.

 Re: Rushmore
Brilliant! This was my favorite movie until not too long ago. Rushmore is dynamite. It's pretty much perfect.
Has there ever been a better use of music in a film? Particularly the use of "Ooh la la" at the end.
Rushmore is the movie that single-handedly led the charge of me no longer thinking that something like BASEketball or the dreadful Mallrats (oh, the things twelve-year-olds like...) was the best picture ever made. It got me interested in film, not just in the movies.

 Re: Rushmore
It has something Anderson has forgotten as his career moves on, and that's real heart. The main difference between this and something like Darjeeling, is that the characters in that film are quirky in an obnoxious and unbelievable way... In Rushmore, you buy into everything about these people.
Schwartzmen, Murray, Williams are all totally brilliant, and I liked the twisted edge the movie had on it at times... oddly enough it made it more realistic.
4.5/5

 Re: Rushmore
oh how I instantly adore this movie. I've been a fan of Wes Anderson's strong resumé (although Life Aquatic was a tad too bizarre), and this is definitely the best that I've seen yet (I think the only major film I'm missing at this point is Bottle Rocket). Lovely characters, awesome music, a unique story, and great writing. I'd call this the second best school comedy I've seen, only after "Superbad."

Agree with the general sentiment here - Rushmore is a gem. Definitely Wes' best work and lets hope he can re-ignite the creativity inside him and get back to this type of quality.

 Re: Rushmore
I'm a fan of Anderson and didn't like this quite as much as I was expecting. It's another movie that feels quite whole by the end, but it does not have any more weight or heart than most of his other movies, which it needed because it is not as clever or well structured. Don't get me wrong, I loved it, funny cute clever quirky odd disjointed constantly moving blah. It is very very good. I just prefer Tenenbaums a lot, Fox too probably but just barely.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.
