36 reviews have now come in for Elektra, and a mighty ONE have been positive! At 3% on the RT meter right now, it's one of the worst of the new millenium. Even Catwoman and Gigli got 9 and 7%! And yes, in many areas they did cancel the press screenings, just not all of them to at least save some face, though that clearly backfired.

Poor Elektra - btw theres another fresh review there, but for some reason theyve counted it as rotten. Still, at least its beating Catwoman and Gigli in the average ratings. Still a tonne of reviews to come in yet, but if this is antuhing to go by then Elektra is going to be far kinder reviewed than i had originally expected, around 35% is what i had hoped for; but 3%.....makes me wonder.

Still; Ill judge for myself when i see it, and just hope to god its better than Daredevil

I think this is quite laughable that this movie has become the popular whipping boy of every internet fanboy out there and once again, no way am I going to honestly believe that this movie is really that bad.. As a matter of fact, I'm gonna go out on a limb and boldly predict once again that ELEKTRA Grosses close to 35 Million for it's weekend opening.. =D>

heh, good luck with that BKB. I dont really think this movie can be that bad, Jesus the trailer alone is worth 12% at least. But i guess we can only judge it when we see it - and hope that it dosent do too badly since Jennifer can only make one movie a year.

Wow....it's looking really really bad for Elektra.

If it does indeed end up tanking, it'll be interesting to see if it has any effect on Garner's career.

Yeah?? :-k Say what you want about WHITE NOISE, But the fact that it opened in the amount of theatres it had and grossed what it did opening weekend suggests that if Universal had done the right thing to begin with and expanded it on more screens than what it had, it would've made 40 Million with no problem.. I think it still bothers you that this movie is actually doing better than you expected or wanted it to and you know it and this weekend won't be any different..

No...Honestly I could care less what this movie grosses. I always have the mindset, if a movie makes a certain amount of money...it deserves it, regardless of how bad it sucked. I would also like to see keaton star in some more roles

Meh ... movie will still make money .. but the latest commercial on tv further confirmed my belief that this movie will be cliche inundated much like daredevil .... my interest in this movie is increasing in the same way it did for catwoman .. the laughability factor ... i'll wait till this thing is on dvd, then make my friend rent it and then watch it.

Tony, i doubt it will have any serious impact on Jennifers career, whilst she may be being held back from movies from her role in Alias, Alias also provides her with a substantial safety net - keeping her in the public eye and proving that she can act. Garner knows this, as shes said it before - although she also commented as being "terrified" incase fans hate Elektra. But she said she dosen't really care about the box office for the film. I know i would.

Electra will make money ... theres no doubt .. her career will remain intact and as long as she keeps putting up good performaces in Alias (and the show itself remains good), everything will be fine .... then again, I dont watch the show.

I'm not sure how much of a safety net Alias is. Cancellation rumors have been pretty heavy around the show, and unless it performs much better this season it could see the axe (the ratings have looked much better through the first two shows this season :D )

She's received a lot of critical acclaim and a Golden Globe, but none of that has translated into a runaway hit yet on TV or in the movies. I'm sure she'll still find work, if Elektra bombs, but it'd really be nice to see her have a runaway hit. I get the feeling she is teetering on becoming an A List celebrity if she could just string together a couple big hits.

I don't know. 13 Going on 30 grossed $57M, solid for a relatively low-budget and considering that Garner was headlining a movie on her own for the first time.

It also appears as if she herself is not actually receiving poor reviews for Elektra. The majority of critics think the movie is ghastly, but Garner is appearing to be escaping from all that relatively unscathed.

The numbers for 13 Going on 30 are way too low to make it seem like a hit (or assume that it's a sign of her popularity). Though she probably had something to do with the numbers, the PTA wasn't really that high ($6000-ish) for a film with that many screens. Also, considering the marketing ($35 million), 13 Going on 30 was poised to be the it film of the weekend. Mean Girls had a $25 million marketing figure, a theatre count with 600 less theatres, and only slightly better reviews, and it still managed to open a bit higher. And, Lindsay Lohan isn't any bigger of a draw. I think this just proves that it had to do with their (the movies') appeal to the audience, and the stars had little to no impact in the actual box-office of the film.

Opening your first feature film to over $20m at the box office is not an easy task and is rarely done by actresses. 13 Going on 30 made up for the revenue it didnt make at the box office by being one of 2004's biggest dvd succeses.

Take a peak at the UK performance as well as its performance in many international territories. The film opened relatively low [a fair bit lower than Mean Girls in the UK] but then grew great legs from some awesome word of mouth until it nearly matched Mean Girls and the likes of 50 First Dates et all. It outgrossed Mean Girls in several other major territories too such as Germany. But in the US the strong competition for the same demographic, and poor advertisements which made it look generic and laughless hurt it. And 3,000 theaters should have been the theater count roof which would have saved marketing costs. Sony should have launched this one to an older aud [25 year olds+] rather than teenage girls, as the references to the 80s as well as the dealings of the characters are far more relatable to that segment imo.

Her role got lots of acclaim for a great performance and Garner definately carried "13" way more than Lohan carried "Mean Girls" [which relied on its secondary characters for laughs] "Mean Girls" was not only a very good movie, but its ads campaign was way better than "13 Going on 30"s.

This said, im very interested in Garner's future in films. Catch and Release looks to be a really major film for her career; but Jennifer won't leave "Alias" until its cancelled, and as the current season ticks on with great ratings thats looking unlikely any time soon.

"If Catwoman was a big pile of crap on the sidewalk, this movie is the dumbass that slipped face first in it."--Kartoon Wurley on IMDb, talking about Elektra
