Quentin you crazy man if only you'd remove your head from your arse and make more films like this, instead of the indulgent crapfest of Death Proof I'd be eternally greatful. Even the acting appearance of the large chinned one can't derail this film.

If I was to make a "Characters I'd likely strangle if I met them" list then Tracy Flick would be well up there. She is just so God damn annoying and preppy, and the fact she gets the best of everyone in the end has me banging my head off a nearby table in annoyance.

So yeah, if a film and character does a job so good as to make me risk frontal Brain damage its list worthy.

What a great script, if it was a women it would be the most beautful creation ever!! I mean the story is a tad threadbare, but with dialogue and characters this sharp I don't give a toss. It was definetly one of the best in theatre experinences I've had, i know this much.

I swear this film was on a constant mission to depress the shit out of me.

YES!! McQueen and Hoffman might actually escape this time, so happy...............fuck the Nun screwed them over!

And so it goes with the mental torture until you feel like McQueen looks. The Brave fella never stops trying though.

Hi I'm Dustin Hoffman, today I'll be playing a mild mannered American stuck in the English countryside dealing with inbred local gimps who rape my girlfriend/wife and generally cause a nuisence. Thanfully by the finale I turn into a hardass with a big shotgun and spray the screen with guts!!

Peckinpah is the go to guy for hard hitting violence.

A film with Woody Allen as a Sperm and a giant rampaging Breast simply has to be loved. Ok its not really a whole film more a series of Vignettes but damnit each is like a nugget of comedy Gold.

And the eternal question of the love between a man and his sheep is dealt with also.

I promise the last of the 2007 movies on my list but what a stunning 2007 high note thus far. Now I'm not normally a big man for period style pieces like this (which the first 1/2 feels like) but this film is crafted perfectly and then it shifts up to even higher gears in the second half and left me blubbing like a baby by the end.

Oh yeah and the Dunkirk tracking shot is jaw dropping.

Number 68: Out of Sight

I know of no other film with the level of chemistry shown by Lopez and Clooney here. I expect the screen to burn off whenever they share a frame and even though the whole cops and robbers plot is nothing amazing its this presence that makes Out of Sight so damned enjoyable.

Number 67: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Image

Michel Gondry''s mind bending drama was easily one of the most surprising film experiences I have ever had. I knew all the raves before I watched it finally on DVD around a year and a half after release, but the plot itself just didn't suggest anything really special was in store. Boy was I wrong. Its an endless inventive trip through the mind and a cutting and honest examination of human relationships. Even the normally annoying Dunst fails to irritate and Carrey proves he has acting chops to go with the goofball comedy. Winslet is the real star however, her turn as Clementine lights up every scene and it really is becoming a joke at this stage that the women hasn't nabbed an Oscar. Hopefully Revolutionary Road will cure that.

Number 66: High Plains Drifter

Image

A strange errie film High Plains Drifter skirts the line between old style Western and supernatural while retaining an uneasy air. The colour is washed out and the sounds whistle out of the speakers like uneasy spirits, in short its just a very creepy sort of film. It's definetly not your typical type of Western and I often wonder how it even got made, but I'm glad it did cause its one of Eastwoods best and deserves to be lauded more then it is.

Number 65: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Image

If ever a book was made to be filmed by Terry Gilliam it was this. A wild journey thru the eyes of a madman its not a film for the casual viewer and its humour is strictly a niche affair. But when your in that niche this film is comedy gold. Depp has been trapped by the evil multiplex masses these days, but at least he got this unhinged performance out before it.

Number 64: Tremors

Image

The best B-Movie of the past 40 years Tremors is tense, funny, gorey and packed with memorable enjoyable characters. Its a very simple premise and I'm sure its been tried before but Tremors nails it. You'll be a tad wary of walking on gravel for a while after seeing it that much is certain. The sequels tailed off as was to be expected but the first slice was Perfection.

Tremors. Such a terrifying movie. Almost as terrifying as Young Frankenstein.

Mel Brooks is one of the true pioneers of the spoof genre and when he was on form everything he produced was gold. Young Frankinstein pushed close but I'll give the nod to this as Brooks best. No better send up of Westerns can be found, and Gene Wilder and Clevon Little make for a great double act.

Number 62: Saving Private Ryan

Image

If ever there was a year the Oscars were a joke it was 1998. How the fluffy Shakephere in Love won out over this no sane person will ever know. Spielburg crafts a powerful tale and with the D-Day landings as a backdrop it grips you by the throat and never lets go. Veers towards sentimentality at the end but its a minor complaint. Hanks is on career best form here.
