A Good, Thought Provoking Political Question To Ponder??

Which Do You Think Will See 1st?? A Black President or a Woman President??
A Black President 57%  57%  [ 8 ]
A Woman President 21%  21%  [ 3 ]
Neither.. Society only recognizes a White Man as President since that's the way it's been done for the longest time, so why break tradition?? 21%  21%  [ 3 ]

LMR, all I meant to point out was that their arguement holds no water because at that high level of office women and men don't necessarily act differently. Saying they pour their tears everywhere is not going to get all that far regardless of if its coached as being a good thing or a bad one.

I dont think you understand...I think their point is awful...women are just as competent as men to do anything.

What did you think I meant :???:

Well, you were saying that you tried to take their argument about a woman being equal. I think a proper thing to do would be to dismiss that rgument out of hand, and try and convince them that women can be equal to men, and there's nothing wrong with that.

No...I told them that women ARE equal to men, and should be allowed to do anythin a man can do. I was agreeing with what dolce, said about the "compassion" aspect of it...if they were going to use that defense

Although your assassination comment is far fetched at best, I agree that we're more likely to see a women president in our lifetime, but I don't think either will happen. This has a lot to do with the fact that a lot of people are still subconsciously, quasi racist. People make racial jokes and don't think twice about it, but they'd never call a black person a "nigger" to their face. They feel uncomfortable around people of different races, but won't bring it up in public. These kind of people would never vote for a black president, and are unfortunately more prevalent than ever.

For women, they still have to deal with the idea that if they express their mind openly and are strong in their beliefs they are "bitches". This is why Hillary would never get voted in. People perceive her as a bitch, even though in reality she's just a normal person. If we ever see a female president, she'll probably be of the Stepford Wife-ish type. More of a mouthpeice for her husband. Until people become comfortable with the fact that women are just as smart, intelligent, and capable as men, I don't see a women getting nominated.

Well, the results of this Poll are pretty fascinating with many folks leaning toward a Black Man becoming President before a Woman does and as much as I hate to say it, but no way will we see a Black Man becomes President before a Woman gets a shot.. As much as you want think the assassination ploy folks is a bit extreme, it would happen and a Black Man wouldn't be in office that long.. I know it's sad and again, it's not being racist but more realistic.. There are many who would feel that the Minorities would be getting extra preferential treatment if a Black Man were to become President than the others and it just wouldn't happen.. It wouldn't be allowed..

Women don't want to be men's egual. They want to be greater than us. It's true. I mean, they want to be able to do all the things we do but then if they did, they would still be doing all the things that they already do. They want to know that they are greater than men, they really don't want to do all the things we do...

I personally want women to attain equality. I want to take my paternity leave and stay at home. I know it's hard work, i'm not devaluying home caring. But i'd rather do it than work at a 'regular job', and nothing is more fulfilling than raising children.

Why do you think this? Do you have evidence to back up your premise? Because all you have right now is a faulty premise/argument

Sadly, I think neither will become president in our lifetime. If i had to choose one, I would go with a black president being the fact that women are still seen as "inferior" to men..ect. It's funny, because I think a woman could do just as well in office as any man...perhaps even better because alot of times(mostly with our new-con presidents) it seems as if they have a testosterone build up and dont know what the hell to do with themselves.

:Sigh:

One day..one day...Boy how I would love to see a black female president

I totally agree! As long as racism exists I don't think a black president will ever run our country, and I don't think a woman will either because of how sexest our society is. There are a lot of men that would be outraged at the fact of a woman trying to run their country. It's a pity, I really wish either would happen, but honestly I don't see it happening in my lifetime.

Thought provoking and sad at the same time, since women are still viewed as property in many, many nations I think that will play heavily, and of course the opposing side would fully exploit that factoid. Based on this consideration I would say a man of color will be first. Also by 2010 Census 50% of people in the US will be non-white.

Somethign really ironic. You're right about the property thing but whats funny is how countries such as bangladesh, india and pakistan have actually seen female prime ministers, not once but even twice (though i admit completely that in majority of the cases, some terrible terrible choices) ..... its a bit of a paradox really .... and whats funny is, i do know that in the case of benazir and sonya (who stepped down right away), it was never really an issue if they were women or not ...

So what?

The U.S. already had a female president ;-)

Kidding aside, I do believe that it has nothing to with the culture here, but with the fact that there just aren't enough compelling female or minority leaders.

I agree but I also look at the fact that all these issues are blown out of proportion right away ... i mean all hillary has to announce is that shes running and more things than anything will concentrate on her being a woman than anything else ..... which I do believe is part of a culture ....

Exactly, the fact that she is female would be the dominant issue in teh rpess, not whether or nto she'd make a godo president.

Honestly I think the best shot at a President with any kind of minority background, is Jeb Bush's son, George P. Bush. If he ran the fact that his mother is from Mexico being used as an asset rather then as a handicap.

You do realize that a george bush will be in office for atleast 16 years and if this dude runs, well .. you know where i'm going with that ..

on another note, did the bush family run out of names?? I mean ... come on ... 3 georges!!!
