Ratatouille
Image
(2007)

The best Pixar movie to date. They just keep getting better and better. Wonderfully animated, scripted, acted and sweet, a near perfect movie. Not to mention funny. Maybe it will fall a bit whence I see it more, but as of right now, this is about how I felt about this instant.

Favorite Scene: The rats meet inspection

How hard did I cry? :tears: at that display window.

Taxi Driver
Image
(1976)

Scorcese's best film. Bar none. It tells the story of a socially awkward (to say the least... he brings Cybil to a Porno theater for goodness' sake!) cab driver who is getting sick from all that he sees day in and day out. It eventually pushes him over.

Favorite Scene: Vigilante

The Princess Bride
Image
(1987)

As I have said numerous times... if you don't like this movie you are an inhuman monster with no soul. I haven't run into anyone who doesn't like it, yet, but rest assured, when I do I am calling Ghostrider. An immensely charming film. Very funny, very sweet, some good sword fighting, some running, other stuff! Just... nothing wrong with this movie, really.

Favorite Scene: Offer me money

Get out of my head! My rankings last time I checked

Princess Bride - 6, thinking about putting it in top 5
Taxi Driver - 17
Ratatouille - Haven't ranked yet but top 50
Eternal Sunshine - 13, thinking about putting it in top 10

Wasn't on par with most of the first 70 of your list but from there it's been all aces

: D

I get the feeling it ends soon though and you'll put like The Prestige in your top 10

Jurassic Park
Image
(1993)

I shall clarify why this is so high, even though it doesn't need clarification. When I was younger, like many children I loved everything about Dinosaurs. This was the first movie to bring them to life for me. I was in awe... Seeing the T-Rex, the "coolest" dinosaur running around... wow. Just exhilerating. Now the two sequels may have lessened the magic a little bit, but the film still stands up today, as do the special effects. Awe inspiring film.

Favorite Scene: First look at the T-Rex

Office Space
Image
(1999)

A comedy that never gets old to me. Just as funny now as it was when I first saw it. It's about a lowly office worker, Peter, getting tired of the monotony of work. Hilarity ensues after he gets treated with hypnotherapy and he stops caring about work and just does what makes him feel good. Jennifer Aniston's 2nd best movie. :D

Favorite Scene: Interview with the Bobs.

Well Office Space is kinda overrated and I've never really liked Spielberg... I guess you're out of my head for the moment.

Psycho (1960)

Image

I got this movie for Christmas 2 to 3 years ago. I am not sure why I waited so long to finally watch it, especially since I loved Vertigo and Rear Window. Anthony Perkins is captivating as Norman Bates. Anytime he is on screen I'm fascinated.

Image

A wonderfully shot film as well, as referenced by the above image. A haunting slow pan out that really struck me. I always wonder how I would think of some movies if I didn't know practically everything about it before going into it. Classics definitely have that problem with me, as with this movie, I knew practically all the "shocking moments" before watching the movie. If I hadn't seen the shower scene a million times, or knew the twists, would I like this movie even MORE after a first viewing?

Image

Psycho is Hitchcock's masterpiece. He's a pretty good director, no? I've seen 4 of his movies, 3 masterpieces and one decent flick. I need to check out North by Northwest.

Favorite Scene: We all go a little mad sometimes (perkins really is captivating)

The Iron Giant
Image
(1999)

Unfortunately my brother has my copy right now, so you'll only get this poster. Anywho, this is the best animated movie I ever ever seen, from the 90s where animated movies were struggling to break out from the same old formula thanks to the success of Disney. This movie does break from that same old mold, and is rather excellent. Brad Bird is responsible for my top 3 animated movies. I'd say he is good. This is a wonderful story about a boy and his pet 100 foot robot. It's quite funny but also very sweet and emotional.

Favorite Scene: Becoming a gun

How hard did I cry? :tears: :tears: :tears:

Seven (1995)

Image

A disturbing whodunit mystery of a serial killer using the theme of the 7 deadly sins for each victim. Brad Pitt has been a favorite of mine, not necessarily because of his acting skills, but because he used to pick such great scripts. Morgan Freeman, as usual, is good at what he does.

Image

A dark movie, setting up the mood with dark rooms and rain. Fits my personality quite well.

Image

The ending really packs quite a punch. I unfortunately was spoiled it before I actually saw the movie. (sigh, as usual) but it didn't really lessen it for me. Some may find it a wicked twist. I find it depressing.

Favorite Scene: Become wrath

How hard did I cry? Hard not to.

Groundhog Day (1993)

Image

If only the academy recognized more comedies. You know, ones that aren't made by indie studios and are "quriky" and soaked in dry wit. This movie definitely deserved some recognition. The best comedy ever made.

Image

Bill Murray is his usual fantastic self, and I think gives one of his best performances in this film as Weatherman Phil Conners who gets stuck repeating the same day over and over, Groundhog Day. He shows all the emotions an actor is supposed to show, anger, fear, sadness all with perfect comedic timing!

Image

Not the funniest movie ever made, but still hilarious. The middle portion manages to be quite sad as well, and then incredibly sweet! I just love this movie!

Favorite Scene: The final day.

How hard did I cry? Minimal

Squee, you're stealin' my screenshot thunder! I was gonna do the same thing, except I'm thinking about trying it for every movie.

I should also take this moment to let it be know that I will unequivocally not be ready after Squee.

Also, I'm very very happy to see Psycho so high.

Thank goodness I went first, then. My presentation would look so terrible going after that!!

The Prestige (2006)

Image

Christopher Nolan :) When I first saw this movie, I thought it was good, especially the ending, but I wasn't completely thrilled by it because of some inconsistencies. Upon further viewings, though, the movie grew and grew on me. It became less about the twist and more about the characters.

Image

Hugh Jackman does a great job as Robert Angier, and in some ways does a better job than Bale. The story follows 2 magicians who later become rivals after a tragic accident. Obsession consumes both of them. There really is no physical antagonist of the film. The antagonist is instead their obsession.

Image

Could be a hard movie to follow, what with it being a guy reading a journal of a guy reading a journal. Time jumps galore! The movie gets really cool at the end, and the twist I honestly didn't see coming until about 2 minutes before. A twist that manages to be shocking yet still make sense. One of the best.

Favorite Scene: Not working as intended

How hard did I cry? Not buckets full, but maybe a small cup full. Like, one of those small cups that come with Nyquil.
