Re: In the Shadow of the Moon
A superb documentary on man's miraculous expedition to the moon.
Blending the classic news and mission footage with current interviews with the moon astronauts, this is an inspiring account of our species' pinnacle of exploration, still untopped in these days in which the dark side seems to rule our dreams. Think of David Letterman's beatdown of Paris Hilton, and the cheering that ensued. Way back in 1969, humankind cheered for the force, or as they called it then: the right stuff.
Foolishly, I still dream of a new planet-wide shared adventure that takes us beyond our petty squabbles. Yet, I know in my heart that we must plunge into the fire before we can be tempered with that level of wisdom. So jeer on! Taunt the trivial! Revel in the rubbish!
But, if you want to catch a glimpse of our once and future realm, give yourself 100 minutes to revisit a time in which men flew from Earth and returned to tell the tale.

Re: In the Shadow of the Moon
Quote: An exhaustive, three-year search for some tapes that contained the original footage of the Apollo 11 moonwalk has concluded that they were probably destroyed during a period when NASA was erasing old magnetic tapes and reusing them to record satellite data. http://www.rightpundits.com/?p=4325Likely story. Seriously, 66 years from Kitty Hawk to Landing on the Moon. And yet today we can't get Space Shuttles off the ground without damage, some 40 years after getting to the Moon.

I don't remember seeing that particular one, but the topic is clearly the same and uses the same pool of NASA footage. I've seen a lot of material on the space program, and I found In the Shadow of the Moon to be directed with a unique zest and the narration by the astronauts seemed to have more humor and yet was very inspiring...
