Re: Yahoo Review Thread - Halloween, Balls of Fury, Death Senten
Was Death Sentence even expected to be at all popular? I mean, it stars Kevin Bacon, who has always been a fairly decent actor in a million movies, but has never been bankable on his own.

Considering the number of reviews, I'm surprised at the B grade for Halloween. I was expecting C range.

Re: Yahoo Review Thread - Balls of Fury
3-Hour Update:Balls of Fury - 1,098 (259), 398 Friday (44 Friday), +33 (+4), C+ Death Sentence - 158 (31), +37 (+11), B- Halloween - 1,670 (386), +142 (+86), B Halloween will have a high ratio but a $10M Friday seems like a safe call at this point. Balls of Fury appears to be heading for $2.5-3.0M. Death Sentence's evening pace has been consistent, so I can now see $1.5M or a little more. The moderate theater count will prevent a low ratio, though.

Re: Yahoo Review Thread - Halloween, Balls of Fury, Death Senten
Judging from the number of Yahoo ratings, Halloween may be headed for a huge Saturday fall, possibly above 20%.

Re: Yahoo Review Thread - 3:10 to Yuma, Shoot 'Em Up
3:10 to Yuma - 355 (74), B+ Shoot 'Em Up - 41 (7), B+ Yuma is clearly helped by front page, but still off to a pretty good start, especially since it should have a lower ratio than Shoot 'Em Up. Just terrible for SEU. I almost already can't see $2m for the day.

With virtually no online presence, SEU could have a 100-120 ratio, but yeah, even $2M will be a stretch. And how about The Brothers Solomon clocking in at 20 reviews! Somebody get a hose for that fire!

Re: Yahoo Review Thread - 3:10 to Yuma, Shoot 'Em Up
I have to say I am really puzzled by Shoot 'Em Up's performance... the trailer looked pretty good, the reviews are decent to positive... it has a fairly good screen count... why is it going to come in under 10 million (possibly way under...). Am I missing something?

Re: Yahoo Review Thread - 3:10 to Yuma, Shoot 'Em Up
I'm wondering something: We try to project the ratio by looking at similar movies which can be tricky sometimes. We have all these different internet numbers like popluarity at IMDb, etc. If we'd take these in account, could this maybe help for getting a more accurate ratio? Just a stupid thought.

Am I missing something? For starters, the promotion was dismal. It's also opening on a historically bad weekend, which doesn't preclude a solid open but makes it more difficult. The trailer only seemed compelling to those who love two hours of non-stop gunfire, and the theater count is not all that great. This is one film I thought would have a lot more online buzz but instead will probably find a better audience on DVD.

The first update for Yuma after removing from the front page isn't impressive, so holding my judgment for now.

Re: Yahoo Review Thread - 3:10 to Yuma, Shoot 'Em Up
I'm not quite sure why some thought Shoot Em Up would do well. It reminds me a lot of last year's Running Scared with Paul Walker, a film that didn't even manage 7 million total.
They both have over-the-top action and ultra violence, actors who have never proven themselves to be draws, similar theatre counts, same distributor, and lack of appeal towards women.

Re: Yahoo Review Thread - 3:10 to Yuma, Shoot 'Em Up
And thats why I hoped that shoot 'em up would make up, financially and consequently with talk created because of it, for shortcomings of that great movie. As you nicely put it, both belong to great extinguishing type of movies that just don't make money these days, or maybe have never had.
I kinda hoped this one will. They choosed the date they wanted, didin't have to jamm it in some crowded spot. Black Dahlia, or Covenant numbers would be good for this one. There were Smokin' Aces in the begining of the year, and they did pretty good. Then you got Clive, coming of Children of Men, it's not much but it's something. And I've been hearing about this movie for over an year now. At the end, the tracking was ok, low teens, thats good.
But now 2 mils for openning day, thats ... damn it.
