A Good, Thought Provoking Political Question To Ponder??

Which Do You Think Will See 1st?? A Black President or a Woman President??
A Black President 57%  57%  [ 8 ]
A Woman President 21%  21%  [ 3 ]
Neither.. Society only recognizes a White Man as President since that's the way it's been done for the longest time, so why break tradition?? 21%  21%  [ 3 ]
Total votes : 14

By the way, smart money is on Clinton to receive Democratic nomination and McCain to receive Republican nomination 2008. (Click on 'politcal markets' on the left).

Krem, the problem with the no anti-rice sentiment on the left has little to do with it. Anyone on the far left won't vote for any republican candidate. I think what you meant was that there is no anti-Rice sentiment on the right. So people that agree with her politics, agree with her. Unlike Clinton who unfortunately has her dislikers even on the left. Its not the opposite party sentiment that is as big an issue as the costituates of the actual party the candidate is from. If a woman can't even get people who agree with her agenda to like her personally, then there is going to be a big problem. No one on the right hates Condi just because of her personality or because she is a woman, and that's why she could be a candidate. Hillary, sad but true, has a whole group of people who dislike her even within the democratic party. Its always been odd to me, since I don't know how it happened. I think it was the health care research she did the first year he was in office way back in 91 or something? Its always baffled me. Anyways, she may run, but not survive the primaries. Condi has a better chance, but I really don't see either of them running.

Though now that you mention it, Condi would make a strong bick as a running mate as far as strategic moves go.

You could've challenged other things in my post. But this? If you want to take a stab at wertham, can't you do it directly? ;)

dolce, my assumption is that to win a presidency a candidate has to appeal the voters from the other side too. Even Bush did it in '04.

If Clinton runs, Republicans will not support her. On top of that, you'll have the people from the right who usually don't vote coming out in droves just to vote against her.

If Rice runs, the same thing won't happen on the left. If Cheney or Rumsfled hypothetically ran, though, that "anti" sentiment would come out.

LOL.

Honestly, that wasn't my intent. Besides, to wertham's credit, I don't see him talking about worldwide Jewish conspiracies or anything like that.

But there are many opther conspiracists

Nice try. I'd only vote for you if you'd give me a Cabinet position (so I'd look particularly good at the back to school reunion...jk), beyotch!

I feel like calling you an apikorsim. A heretic. But, considering the way I practice, it'd be hypocritical... ;)

I was talking to my girlfriends sister and her soon to be husband about this, and BOTH of them said that a woman should never be in high political power(president) because they cannot make good decisions like men can. The think that women tend to be more compassionate towards individuals, and by having a woman as president would be total chaos.

I of course laughed at them, right after I vomited in my mouth because what they were sayin was so disgusting

Oh some people would argue that same point, LMR, but say that's exactly why a woman would make a good prez. You know, more humatiraian and sympathietic and comapssionate. less likely to push the little red button, etc.

Realisticly the answer is none of the above.

The first president we will see will be a mixed president. There really is no doubt about it.

Tell your future sister-in-law (if the relationship with your gf works...;)) to read Ann Coulter's books. She certaintly isn't very compassionate towards individuals.

How is this logic different from what LMR is complaining about?

There are different women; there are the girls next door and then there are dominatrices. STereotyping women doesn't do the cause of electing one a president any good.

That's what I tried to tell them. I tried to take their own argument and turn it around on them. But sadly, this is no joke, they both don't really think...women should....work in marriage. They dont think that a woman should be confined to the house, but the def think that the woman should be the cook, cleaner, child raiser...ect.

A perfect example...we were talking about incomes...ect. Well I was telling them when I graduate law school or grad school, I will likely be making 70,000 within my first couple of years(Im excited about that hehe) anyways, My girlfriend(if we get married) is majoring in physical therapy and will be making MO MONEY because she will have a PHD. Well, my point was, neither of us really want daycare if we have kids...we would rather one of us stay home(I was in day care my entire life, and hated it...although IM not saying its bad for everyone)
I asked them if my wife was making say....300,000 dollars a year, and I was making say....50,000(I low balled for a point) and we wanted/ 5 kids...would it not be more wise to have sarah work than me? Get this...they BOTH SAID NO!!!! because they think the man should work...the man should be the bread winner...ect ect...I was fuckin blown away.

That just disgusts me...

You can't have it both ways, LMR: either a woman is always more compassionate, sympathetic, etc., or she can be a man's equal.

LMR, all I meant to point out was that their arguement holds no water because at that high level of office women and men don't necessarily act differently. Saying they pour their tears everywhere is not going to get all that far regardless of if its coached as being a good thing or a bad one.

Sure thing, tell him Katya sent it out two weeks ago, and that the package should be post located from Brooklyn, NY.

My bad, I had a self-deprecatory bitch joke appended to the end which I deleted, since your Maggie one hit home far more beautifully.
