It seems like he could with that kind of rating. It definitely won't get less than 80% at rottentomatoes.

I really need to hear more and see it to say he can win because right now I'm thinking definitely no based on the fact that he hasn't really received much or any acclaim aside from winning Venice (or was it Toronto?).

Not that I'm expecting him to be bad in it. On the contrary, I think he's going to be good and I think if the Best Actor race loosens up and he picks up some buzz, he could get in. But right now the lack of print on his performance specifically is enough for me to say that he doesn't have much of chance to win.

Nomination: Maybe; could be a long shot, could be a dark horse.
Win: No (at least at this point in time)

Isn't he more of a supporting role in the film? Winning Venice didn't exactly help Ben Affleck last year. Jesse James is getting better reviews, but the buzz is still not there. People at Venice were quite surprised that he won. Casey Affleck is said to have stolen every scene he is in.

If Brad Pitt wins an Oscar before Johnny Depp, I lose all hope for anyone in that Academy. I've already lost all hope for the Emmy judges.

Cream of the Crop: 25%.

... gets smothered in pointlessly long takes, repetitive scenes, grim Western landscapes and mumbled, heavily accented dialogue. (Hollywood Reporter)

this indulgent 2 hour and 40 minute epic ends up as unwieldy as its elongated title. (L.A. Times)

Hugely ambitious and not without moments of success, this indulgent 2 hour and 40 minute epic ends up as unwieldy as its elongated title. (L.A. Times)

 Hey Levy, did you see the final cut or one of the earlier five? I know it was long enough go that it really could've been one of the earlier versions right?

He won at Venice, and it's like I haven't heard anything since.

Reviews for it ended up being respectable but modest at 69%.

I think the film needed to make more of a splash. As of now, I'm going to say no nomination, but things always change. He could pick up buzz by the year's end. Casey Affleck, too.

The Last Samurai ended up doing relatively well despite worse reviews than Jesse James.

I originally said I thought it could end up following in the footsteps of Legends of the Fall and that seems about right right now. Acting will depend a lot on box office success.

After seeing Jesse James, I can safely say that Brad Pitt deserves to win the Oscar this year, without question. He delivers one of the best performances I've ever seen.

If he won this year and Jolie gets nominated next year for Atlas Shrugged, he could hand the award to her if she wins.

wow, the odds of that happening.... :P

The odds of that happening are non-existent. Atlas Shrugged will be nowhere near the Oscars.
