I think Spidey 2 did.

No offense and I'm just gonna jump right to the end of this thread without even reading 1 response and say that anyone who says that they've been to a movie and the audience stood up and gave the movie a standing ovation is lying through there teeth and is nothing more than a ploy to hype the movie itself.. I'm 38 and have been going to movies as long as the next person and seen pretty big blockbusters just like everyone else and of course, was even part of the whole SW craze back in the 70's and 80's and no film I had ever been to had a standing ovation.. Applause at the end?? YES, and it just happened to involve 1 or 2 of the SW movies but nothing else that I can honestly recall that garnered that much applause much less a standing ovation.. Maybe it has to do with where I live or something.. I mean St.Louis is a pretty big city and all, but maybe were just a little more relaxed when it comes to supposed things like this....

I can assure you i've seen it happen several times. I agree that some people probably overexaggerate the audience response for movies they really like, but standing ovations do happen, as stupid as they may be.

Also, I think it has less to do with where you live than with what time you go to the movies. Late night showings are much more likely to get big crowd reactions. Also, opening day showings.

Well if what your implying is true, then I'd be embarrassed as hell to participate in a standing ovation for a movie, no matter how good it was.. I'd feel like a dork doing so and would probably exit quietly out the backdoor so no one seen me doing it.. Talk about really getting into a movie..

Not ever. I've seen children clap at the end of a movie, but I've never seen adults do it.

I don't want to sound like I'm knocking what your saying, but right now, I have my eyes closed visualizing what a full theatre looks like with everyone standing up and applauding a movie without coming across looking like a bunch of Dorks over it.. I can grasp applauding a movie, that much I can do, but a standing ovation??? Really Moviedude?? :-k An entire audience actually stood up and applauded a movie like BLADE II??? I'd love to see what this crowd looked like that did that.... Knowing me, If I were an usher and I saw this, I'd be terminated for making fun of a bunch of people that did this..

The entire theater, na. But a lot of people did. You gotta understand though, this was a MIDNIGHT show, and I knew half the people there, who had come from a party. Even so, when everyone starts standing, others do too. It's weird, yeah, but hey, it's just what I saw, can't change the facts to make them sound more plausible.

Kinda reminds me of how people were lying about the audience erupting into a thunderous round of applause when trailers for Matrix Reloaded would play before a movie. :^o Surely it wasn't just a coincidence, that the people who claimed such things, were all big mouth pieces for the movie, and believed it was the second coming. :nono:

I'm 36 years old, and have been going to movies for many years, and not just in my home town either. This includes midnight showings of Star Wars, where there are true fanatics out in full "force". Sometimes, you'll get a smattering of applause at the end, but this isn't a rock concert. It's not a high energy adrenaline rush like a concert or sporting event is. It's also not a live event, like a theater performance, in which you have the actors there, and want to show your appreciation. Maybe if we were talking about a premiere, with actors from the movie in attendance, but we're not. People are far more interested in getting out asap, so they can beat the traffic. What's next, are people going to try to convince us that people started dancing and singing in the aisles because of enjoying a movie? When people really like a movie, they don't collectively stand up and
