Re: Harry Potter 5: OOTP (INTL.)
UK is definately the standout out of the major markets.
Though it's grosses were really boosted by Asia. Every movie has done well in that region this year.....I would rank Potter 4th behind Spiderman, Transformers and AWE....huge year.
Definately has the possibility to go as high as $650m. looks like $600m is the new $500m....
I wonder if any movie has the powers to reach $600m+ next year.....Narnia might...the first movie adjusted to today's conditions wouldn't be too far off.

Doesn't HP6 come out next November? That will surely cross the mark, unless it'll count towards 2009 in those markets it opens after the new year.

Re: Harry Potter 5: OOTP (INTL.)
Has Harry Potter won the OS battle every year a film has been released?

Yes, except this year. It needs another 14.5 million dollars overseas to beat Pirates' 651.2 million (numbers according to BOM).

Re: Harry Potter 5: OOTP (INTL.)
In its 10th weekend in release Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix added $1.9m from approximately 2,600 prints in 48 territories for $639.1m. The UK is the biggest market on $99.3m, followed by Japan on $75.6m, Germany on $62m, and France on $51.4m. ========= Add this to the Domestic estimate of $289,368,000 ($845,000, -18.1%) and we have $928.468mHP5 overtakes LOTR: TTT to become the 6th largest movie of all-time Worldwide. Looks like it'll be finishing with $292m + $650m = ~$942m.

Eh, another 50% drop this weekend. It's really following DMC's pattern, so it should make 645M OS.

 Re: Harry Potter 5: OOTP (INTL.) - $928.5m (#6)
NETHERLANDS - Week 9
Haven't tracked Netherlands for a while but Potter 5 doing pretty well here. Leading POTC3 and all previous Potter installments. It will need to work a bit harder if it is to surpass HP2's $13,840,551 tally...but will have no problems passing HP1 ($13,391,178) to become the 2nd largest Potter ever in USD$.

 Re: Harry Potter 5: OOTP (INTL.) - $928.5m (#6)
From Hollywood Reporter Quote: "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" went up to $642.1 million as it added $1.4 million over the weekend from 2,100 screens in 46 territories. Notable updates; Quote: August tentpole "The Bourne Ultimatum" dominated the overseas market for a third week in a row and the fifth time in the past six weeks. "Bourne" grossed $13.8 million from 3,782 playdates in 40 territories, lifting its international cume to $145.2 million. Quote: Disney/Pixar's animated "Ratatouille" keeps rolling along as it gears up for fall school holidays in Europe and hopes to stay around in some markets for a piece of the year-end holiday business. Over the weekend, it took in $4.3 million from 2,393 screens in 27 countries to raise its cume to $215.8 million. The film's sole new opening was in South Africa, which contributed $292,000 from 80 screens for a No. 1 arrival. But the big news was the film's performance in France. According to Disney International, it went up 9% in its eighth week in France, where it held second place with a weekend score of $1.5 million for a market gross of $56.2 million.

 Re: Harry Potter 5: OOTP (INTL.) - $928.5m (#6)
I need to find this thread I made over at BOF back in like...JAN or FEB or something. Maybe even late 2006. Omni and I spent a night (yes, there really wasn't nothing better to do...) figuring out how welll HP5 would do. We said it would increase from GOF in all of Latin America (if not all, a clear majority). That it would see a big increase in the UK, and match the past films in Germany and France. We figured out, I think, the Top 20 Markets. And I said it has a solid shot at 1B WW (which is why we started figuring out what it would need to get there). All OOTP had to do when we finished, was to break the trend in Japan, and get back to at LEAST POA numbers. If it could do that, it would hit 1B. And if it could gross around 90-100 in Japan, the increases in Latin America, and the big increase in the UK would add enough to the OS sum to get it over 700M. But clearly GOF not doing great in Japan wasn't a one time only thing for Potter, and OOTP has followed that same trend. GAW!

I think that will make at worse GOF numbers in Japan. I think HBP will probably do 70-80 million in Japan.

 Re: Harry Potter 5: OOTP (INTL.) - $928.5m (#6)
So, yeah, looks like a $935-936 million WW finish. Very impressive. Half Blood Prince has a shot at $1 billion, but I don't think it'll happend. It'll probably stall at around $970 million or so, maybe passing the first film.
Deathly Hallows, however, will likely receive a Revenge of the Sith-like hype provided Half Blood Prince doesn't suck. With that, it is certainly passing $1 billion. I could see $700+ million overseason and maybe $330-340 million domestically. Could even threaten Dead Man's Chest worldwide.

Though I think Deathly Hallows will blow past Dead Man's Chest. If it is on the same level as GOF/OOTP or above, it'll be looking at $350m Domestic with the International box office likely to go in excess of $700m easily. My prediction is $350m + $750m = $1.1bn. This will beat ROTK overseas

 Re: Harry Potter 5: OOTP (INTL.) - $928.5m (#6)
I don't think it will. That would be REALLY quite an incease over the last pics. I see maybe $710-720 million OS, but not quite $740+ million.
Once it's finished, though...we've really got nothing left on "HUGE" worldwide franchises with Star Wars, LOTR, Pirates (for now at least) and Poter finished. Transformers, contrary to popular belief, isn't in their league, at least not overseas. It didn't enjoy outworldly great WoM in pretty much all European countries and in Japan it didn't do hot either. So, no really huge franchises left anymore for a while.
Maayyybe Narnia has a shot at becoming one, but I doubt it. I don't see any Narnia pic passing even $900 million WW.
