This seems like someone said "Hey, Family Guy is so original", and their friend said "Huhwha, you nuts?" and the friend went so far as to cut scenes from episodes of both shows to prove a point.
I thought it was universally known that Family Guy is essentially (for lack of a better term) a rip-off of The Simpsons. Even the latest episodes are no better than episodes of The Simpsons from the last five years. Although, some of these are stretching it a bit. I don't think all (or maybe even any) of the scenes were done with The Simpsons in mind.

Simpsons has been on how many years? It must be like over 300 episodes by now. They've probably run through virtually every plot you can come up with for a suburban family.

I think Family Guy began with The Simpsons in mind. But, as time went on, the comparisons between the two became smaller and smaller.
I would think that both shows should be embarrassed to be compared to the other. Until Futurama returns, American Dad is the top dog of primetime animation. Along with South Park, o'course. And maybe my newly discovered fave, Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

Yeah, it's well known that Family Guy has ripped off from The Simpsons, but it's ripped-off and parodied practically every major show out there by now.
And let's not forget that the Simpsons itself is greatly indebted to shows that have come before it. It's just that, unlike Family Guy, The Simpsons has replaced the former shows as the standard against which they and subsequent shows, including Family Guy, are measured.

As evidenced by the South Park episode "Simpsons Did It."

Indeed.
Although... some of those Family Guy scenes were funnier than their Simpsons counterparts.

To be honest, I don't think Family Guy is funny/good anymore. It just doesnt have what it used to have. oh well. Aqua Teen and Futurama are better anyways.

Hell even the Simpsons mentioned this in an episode about Itchy and Scratchy animation is built on plagerism.
