Well Clay's first CD outsold Kelly's and his Christmas album last year outsold pretty much all the others albums (including Fantasia's which bombed really bad. His second CD comes out in the spring, so we can see if it can outsell Kelly's second CD.

Nope, I don't think there's any chance of that happening. I think Clay's 2nd will struggle to 1.5 million max, Kelly will still be destroying him.

Clay's Christmas CD has sold around 1.1 million, while Fantasia is close to 1.7 million.

I don't think Fantasia passed 1.5m, or did she.
Ruben BOMBED BADLY. His first album did whatever and his second album I believe didn't even go Gold.

^That's because Ruben now refuses to go mainstream and insisted on releasing a gospel album. You really can't compare Ruben and Fantasia's sales to Kelly's and Carrie's. Ruben had one of the bestselling Gospel albums in recent times, yet if you put that number next to Kelly's, it's laughable. And Fantasia had the #1 Adult-R&B album of 2005 (approaching 2 million because of the Grammy Boost), even thoguh Kelly's first album sold more (2.2 million or so). Fantasia, for example, is doing incredibly well in her genre, but legions of teeny-boppers proclaim that they've never heard her on the radio...but if you changed your Kelly Clarkson/Gwen/Green Day/50 Cent Top 40 radio station for a second to an adult R&B one, you'll hear Fantasia just as much. Carrie also, you never hear her on Mainstream radio, yet her first album is already approaching 2 mil, and should land significantly higher than any Idol debut (even though, she's the least talened winner. Country music fans buy into anything you hand them that has blonde hair and sings about Jesus).

Oh, I didn't know it was Gospel. I agree though, Kelly is the most mainstream.

Last I heard, Fantasia's official total was at 1.639. Since then she's received 4 Grammy nominations that have reportedly boosted her sales. And btw, Ruben's second album was a concept album (Gospel) and had no Mainstream or Urban airplay. His next album (which I assume will be a pop/urban mainstream album) will be released sometime in '06.

So you guys don't think Clay's second CD will outgross his first CD which sold around 3 mil? Why is that? I personally think it will come close to or pass Breakaway's total.

Clay hasn't earned a fan since his Idol days. Therefore his sales can only decrease, it's just a question of how much they decrease.

Yep. I put it at 1.5 mil or so.
He doesn't have a shot in hell at reaching Breakaway levels.

It's tomorrow already! I hope this season I can find someone to root for, I just couldn't muster enough interest to care who won or lost last year.
And on the subject of past Idols, Kelly clearly is the most successful, well-known, and the only one who can get her music played on mainstream pop radio. Carrie is going to do well but she's limited to Country, Clay limited to Adult Contemporary, Fantasia to R&B, and Ruben to hoagies.

Yep. There won't be a whole lot of discussion going on in this thread until the performances actually begin, though, if last year is any indication.

Looks should be as important as talent if selling albums is the ultimate goal.
I don't understand why anybody wouldn't realize that they suck and make a giant fool out of themselves. I almost don't feel bad for them for getting embarrassed.

I really hate the people who make excuses like "I've been practicing all day and I'm really nervous" or "I'm really sick, you guys, and I got a sore throat and can't really sing". Not that I like the bitter people who go off on everyone, but people who make excuses are embarrassments.

They should understand before saying that they are nervous, that if they get too nervous to perform for an audition, they'd never be able to handle it when it actually got to crunch time and performing in front of millions.

Exactly.
And, do any of these people actually WATCH previous seasons? Because all the untalented people do the same embarrassing things that viewers laugh at. Heck, I even feel embarrassed for them.
