That Ben gets so jealous. The last time he killed Locke it was after he learned that Jacob spoke to Locke.

And it would not be such a weird thing for him to go on one after Locke's visit. It would make sense. It doesn't mean Locke convinced him, it's just that Jack's inner issues manifested. It was an OK episode. I don't think that things with Ben and Widmore are black and white. They're both as evil as they're good. Maybe that's why the island "needs" Locke that much. The new survivors??? Ehh, haven't we already seen in season 2 that's a horrible idea???

Re: The "Lost" Thread: Season 5
So, I rewatched the episode...
Ben looked surprised that Jin was still alive, when Locke told him. Could it be that Jin did die until he drifted back towards the island? It seemed that when Ben heard this, it clicked in his head to kill Locke. He didn't really seem to think about it until then. There were no signs that he was going to kill him. And better still, why didn't he just let Locke kill himself? What did he gain out of killing Locke? It's possible he knew that when Locke returned to the island, Locke would be alive again.
Just a theory. The "I'll miss you, John" line could've just been a red herring. The writers love pretending he's evil, only to make him good, then back to evil again.

Ben did get a lot of good info before killing Locke. It was obvious he didn't know how to get back on the island and Locke told him.

He didn't know how to get back to the island and that was his main goal. Once he found, Locke was expendable. As far as him missing Locke I wonder if it is because he liked manipulating him.

Re: The "Lost" Thread: Season 5
But I think he has a point. Ben did bring Locke inside the coffin to the island, so Locke wasn't that expendable. Ben certainly knows more about how everything functions rather than Locke. So Ben maybe didn't know everything, but once he found the last piece of the puzzle he knew Locke had to die and that he'd come back to life once he comes back o the island like Jin.

And why did Ben have Jack put a pair of his dad's shoes on Locke? What was that about, were they magic shoes?

That's what I have been wondering all the time as well. I assume it was the latter...though I know some people who are convinced it is the former (to show the Oceanic Six that it is not all about him).

Re: The "Lost" Thread: Season 5
It was a decent episode, all in all, but not the best of the season. At least I like Locke again. He was such a waste and a really dumb character during S3 and most of S4...and that after being pretty much the best character of S1.
But it's Ben, once again, who really stands out. Michael Emerson deserves a freakin' Emmy for his turn!
I hope Locke beats up Ben...but I'm sure Ben can weasel his way out of it. Fuck, he tried to kill Locke once and actually killed him some time later and I'm sure as hell he'll manage to convince Locke again that it was all somehow for the greater good.

I guess the major question is about Ben and Widmore...who's the bad guy? Are they both kind of bad? Meanwhile, I think both of them try to take advantage of the island's unique power. By the way, awesome performance by Terry O’Quinn!

First scene of the season must be remembered now. Anyone think Daniel might fuck things up to try and save Charlotte?

Re: The "Lost" Thread: Season 5
That episode was OUT OF CONTROL. It was confusing, suspenseful, and even romantic! I absolutely loved it. First of all, Josh Holloway is so awesome as Sawyer. My only complaint is that he didn't somehow manage to spend any of the episode missing his shirt. Disappointing. I adore Sawyer and Juliet together. I pretty much squealed over how cute the scene where he brings her the flower and they make out was. Now that Hurley, Jack and Kate have reunited with them in 1977 (??? I think), I really hope Kate doesn't mess up their relationship. Grr. She needs to just be with Jack or no one. Daniel spotting little Charlotte was a really cool moment. I wonder if anything will happen with that. Where is Sun? When is she going to get to reunite with Jin? Ahh. And furthermore, where are Bernard and Rose? They better still be alive! I can't believe we have to wait 2 weeks

Ugh, I agree so much. I'm a big Jack/Kate fan. I've been watching season one over, and they were perfect for each other. They were two halves of a whole. Sadly, the writers fucked that up royally when they decided to introduce the love triangle with her, Jack, and Sawyer. I think it backfired on her, though, because to be honest, she doesn't work well with Jack OR Sawyer anymore. And they're both fools for letting her continue to treat them the way she does. But seeing how great she and Jack were, I hope they end up together in the end. Although it seems Jack is the tragic hero type that's not going to end up with a happy ending no matter what.. and throughout the whole show, he has never really been truly happy. Sawyer and Juliet worked a lot better together than I ever imagined. The flower scene was adorable; I awwed out loud when they showed her spooning him. I really liked this episode, though I'm excited to get back to the business with the O6 being back and Locke being alive, etc. etc. and seeing where that goes.

Interesting - on 24 she is killed and her husband lives; on Lost - the opposite. And I'm pretty sure it WAS a Mallrats reference - hello, head of security?

I was totally expecting Amy/Michelle Dessler's son to be named Ethan or something.
Why is there no show next week?

Why is there no show next week? Ethan is with the Others so I don't think that could be him. Why did Alberts want Paul's body? Still am hoping to learn more about him soon. It was a great episode it sucks about the wait. Are they showing Dancing with the Stars next wed or something?
