CW does need to rebuild, but they certainly don't appear to be branching out. They are just getting a bunch more teen-oriented shit.

Oh and sort of ho-hum/expected/show that will never die anyway... The Simpsons got renewed for 2 more seasons or 44 more episodes.
It won't top Gunsmoke's total episode record, but that will effectively break the record for the most seasons for a primetime show. Gunsmoke had 20 seasons. The Simpsons will be on its 21st this September, and 494 shows after season 22's end.

No way they don't go for 500. Unfortunately it stopped being consistently good before the 200th.

No one took UPN or the WB seriously either. I think they're afraid that if they branch out and do serious shows that don't involve a 95% young cast, their already-small fanbase will vanish overnight.

By my calculaction, to surpass Gunsmoke's amazing 635 episode run, The Simpsons would need to run for seven more seasons, on top of the two seasons just picked up by FOX. Is that really so implausible? I didn't think 15 seasons was plausible, but here we are, headed towards Season 22.
What a weird DVD collection they're going to amass. "The Simpsons: The Complete 22nd Season"

Apparently CBS is negotiating for the multi-season renewal of Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory. 2&HM is getting a three season order while BBT is getting a two season order. ABC has canceled Life on Mars. Full story -> http://www.tvweek.com/news/2009/03/abc_ ... _final.php

 Re: Renewed/Canceled 2008-2009
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/tvnews.php?id=53487Quote: Despite a ratings decline this season, NBC plans to bring back "Heroes" for a fourth season, said entertainment president Angela Bromstad.
The Hollywood Reporter says the network plans to order 18-20 episodes of the show for next season. That's fewer hours than "Heroes" first or current third season (which each had orders of at least 23 episodes), with season two having been cut short due to the writers strike.
For all its headline-making audience erosion, "Heroes" is still tied with NBC's "The Office" as the network's top-rated series among adults 18-49 this season. "Heroes" also still performs well internationally.
The network has privately discussed setting a series end date for "Heroes," which would followed the creative model used with critical success by ABC's "Lost," SCI FI's "Battlestar Galactica" and FX's "The Shield." But even if NBC ever made such a move, Bromstad said, they wouldn't want to make next season the conclusion.

Without a Trace and Cold Case on chopping block http://www.tv.com/story/13005.html?ref_ ... name=storyStupid move on CBS's part if this goes through as both are consistent every week. Eespecially Cold Case considering it does about 11M average on Sundays.

 Re: Renewed/Canceled 2008-2009
I think CBS should just ship both of these shows to Saturday, because honestly, I'm sure they'd continue to pull sizable audiences. CBS aired The District on Saturdays even this decade and saw success.

They should. Their audience is home on the weekends so it wouldn't make a difference.

 Re: Renewed/Canceled 2008-2009
I don't get how Friday Night Lights keeps getting renewed. I've seen the first few episodes of the show, and considering I'm not a fan of anything they're trying to sell, it was pretty good. And critics do love it. But unlike 30 Rock, it's not improving in the ratings and it's not even getting any major awards attention. I don't know what this deal is that NBC struck with DirecTV, but it must be good.
Good for it though. It's nice to see a good show with low ratings get a chance.

NBC renewed L&O: SVU, but the renewal doesn't cover the deal with the two leads. Apparently NBC is yet to negotiate with Meloni and Hargitay for their stay.

If they don't bring back Meloni and Hargitay, they can forget about the majority of the audience returning. I've always watched SVU and enjoyed it because of the two leads. Without them, the show would totally lose any luster.

 Re: Renewed/Canceled 2008-2009
I don't watch SVU. I tried with first two seasons but I eventually quit. I was trying simple because of Meloni as he's awesome. And I liked Hargitay. But the show never grabbed me (I never digged L&O as a franchise). So yeah, the two leads are awesome and if they replace them, SVU will definitely take a hit in the ratings.

 Re: Renewed/Canceled 2008-2009
Yeah, that sucks. But expected of course. I think it's on its third life. It was a fairly big deal that it came back for a second season, and an even bigger deal it returned for a full second season. A third season would've been a miracle, or nothing short of it.
