Foreign and Indie Forum and Cinemania
Recently, many foreign and indie films threads are posted in here [cinemania].
I think that we already have "Over Seas and Indies" forum....

Recently, "Over Seas and Indies" becomes less popular when many foreign and indie films threads are posted in here ("Cinemania").
Just my two cents.

This was brought to my attention earlier today by Dolce as well.
Though she had a little different idea.
Dolcevita felt that the foreign and Indie section should be moved back into cinemania.
Me personally, I am not so sure.
We need to open this up for discussion, so let me start by giving what I see as our options.
1) Merge Foreign and Indie section with Cinemania, then maybe think about bringing it back at a later date.
or
2) Develop 'definitions' of what an Indie is considered. Mods will then have to carefully police the Cinemania forum, moving any threads that belong in Foreign and Indie section, to its appropriate location.
or
3) Make Foreign and Indie a sub forum to Cinemania. Then see number 2.
There have been many threads, including my Spirited Away thread, that do not belong in Cinemania. It is diluting the already diluted Foreign and Indie section.
We have a problem, how would you all like to deal with it?

I actually like the idea of making it a sub-forum so more people will be aware of it. If they come in this forum they'll see the link.

A subforum will be a good thing to experiment.

Don't merge. I like the subforum idea or keep the Indie forum as is.
I don't buy the argument that thread creators don't or didn't know about the Indie forum. They obviously post their threads in Cinemania to be noticed. But when they're overlooked or ignored because of 4 or 5 popular popcorn films, they gripe and whine. It's a vicious circle.

I wouldn't know about an Indie forum if it wasn't for Dolce.

Can't "define" indie movies, and even then people will do their thing in cinemania anyways...they'll just get irritated when mods randomly move their threads around. Its dead. For a movie forum, it got less posts that video games and pretty much sports.
Besides, I don't like waking up to realize the only forum that flopped was the one I modded and originally forced you guys to make in the first place. Now its like the unwanted house guest that refuses to get off the couch, but doesn't even offer to help keep the house up in return.
Less forums = better, I wouldn't even go subforum for the same reasons I wouldn't maintain a seperate forum at all. People don't want it. Give 'em what they want.
Excuse me, that was a rough post, I have to go lick my wounds now.

Number 2 definitely. It makes it more noticable and still keeps the forum alive.

Either #2 or #3. Merging it with Cinemania is a bad idea.

I don't think Truffaut threads belong next to Bruckheimer. But that's just me.

I myself am leaning toward the subforum route, but as of yet am unsure.

I vote for #2 as "stinkie" foreign films should stay away or seperate from classic American movies.
Love them or Leave them. ( American movies )

Option #2 is very terrible idea for me.
Other the other hand, I think that option #3 is acceptable, but still not good enough. People may keep post all of their thing in cinemania afterall.
I still think that opinion #1 is a best opition.

A "sub forum" sounds like a silly idea. The same thing will just happen again, no?
I say you merge the two forums. It doesn't mean we're disrespecting the indies or foreign films, it just means it works better for discussion about them to simply go in the regular cinemania forum. This way, the film discussion will be more public, as only a select few actually go into the indie forum.
So, I think option #1 is the smartest idea. I agree with dolcevita that the less forums, the better. And the cinemania forum will be an awesome forum with both american films and indie/foreign film discussion going on.
PEACE, Mike

Well a subforum could actually help.
The way it is designed, it would be at the top of Cinemania everytime someone goes into the Cinemania forum. They would alays see the latest thread from overseas and indies that way.
If the latest post in Cinemania was from Overseas and Indies, that would be the post that shows up on the Main forum index. I think it is possible it could help, but you could be right. It may not.
