 "Everyone's a Critic" spamming
thompsonconroy (or something similar) spent 30 minutes searching for old Movie threads and bumping them back up. And he didn't even post a full review....just a "9/10" and moved on.
I'm not calling him out directly or soleley, he's just the most recent person to do it and the best example I could find. I've seen several people do it before; they go into the forum and just go to the thread archive thread and go to every thread for a movie which they have seen. Then they bump down all of the recent thread to recent movie down to the third page.
I mean, in all technicallity, there's nothing wrong with that, but I personally would like to see more than a "9/10" in every post when he or she posts for 30 minutes over three pages.
Maybe some sort of post restriction per day when someone posts in there to prevent mass flooding. I donno. This was more of a semirant then an actual topic of concern.

currently there is no way to automatically stop someone though I do understand your concerns. it could just be an innocent act, not meant to be spamming at all but it is still a problem. I will work with Eagle to figure out a solution and/or if you all can think of something, it would be appreciated : )

We can't really stop (or limit) someone from posting "9/10", though. It's their choice.

Personally, I think there should be a few more stickys. That way the top 5-10 films in release won't be pushed to the second page. Plus, perhaps a couple major DVD releases.

Right now looking through that forum, The Interpreter is on page 2, Hitchhiker's and xXx: State of the Union have been pushed to page 5, and Amityville is now on page 6. Although most people who want to grade them have probably done so, someone entering the forum is more likely to want to grade those then the many ahead of them. So, a sticky would be the only way to keep those movies on the front page when someone grades dozens of movies at once.
Most of the other forums work differently since the popular threads naturally stay near the top. Here, it depends largely on what the last person decided to grade. So, the more popular ones need a sticky IMO.

Maybe we should always sticky the top 5 films gross wise each week and the new limited releases if they have enough interests.

I think Zingaling spends the most time working on that forum. I will forward him to this thread

I'm up for it. We can sticky the week's openers, a few of the popular ones still being discussed, and maybe the DVD releases...?

I used spamming for lack of a better word. It'd take a sad person to think that a spam attack on that forum would upset people.
I'm glad this got replies. I thought I was the only one who thought this.

As someone just bumped Gigli up to the first page - I think that person should be banned.
****************************************************************************
Seriously though - the front page holds 30 places.
And since there are 20 pages now of movies, who is to say what belongs on the front page.
People need to use the search button or page though a couple of pages if they want to look for movies.
******************************************************************************
All you guys really need to decide is how many stickies you want.
I say about 12 which should cover a month worth of the mainstream current movies.
Then with a couple of new movies added, you unsticky a couple of the older or less popular threads.

I was joking and that is why I started the next line with the opening - seriously .............
Ok, now
but really I was using that as a joke because I think this is a very minor problem as I talked about above.
And only minor changes need to be made - as I talked about above.

I agree we do need to decide on a set order for the stickies to make it easier on Zing. It does not nessecarrily have to be a certain number like 12, it could be two weeks of movies ... one week and dvd ... top 10 B.0. and 2 DVD ... whatever. But we should decide on somethign to make it easier on Zing.

The top 10 BO sounds good as a starting point and I just said 12 as an example, I think any # ranging between 10 - 15 is acceptable.

Plus maybe have an annoucement in the forum to explain the stickies and that people should use the search button and page through movies. etc.

Starting a new thread with just "discuss" i think is worse than bumping up all the old threads.

those threads are created after a request for the movie is made by another member. On many occassions, the mods have not seen that movie or do not wish to comment due to personal reasons.
And most importantly people, all movies are archived.

Yeah, guys.
There's a wonderful Thread Archive on the top of the page that dolce works so hard on. It'd be nice if people used that.
Oh, and the "Discuss." post is when I haven't seen the film. I don't know exactly what to put if I haven't seen the movie...

i always use the Thread Archive when i cant find a movie,
maybe it should be a good idea to make that thread more visible, like always beeing on top, larger font or put some color to the font

Make it an anouncement. Anouncements supercede stickies.
And I use the thread archive whenever I'm in there. I can only speak for me, though.

matatonio, I don't really understand what you're saying.
Do you want the font inside the thread to be bigger and stand-out? You can't really make the title stand out unless it's capitalized.

No, outside of the thread, the title

I don't think you can change the size or font of the title of the thread, mat.
