 Gunslinger's Top 5 Directors
Gunslinger was kind enough to write an article discussing his current favorite directors. Give it a whirl, and let him know if you agree in the comments of the article! http://www.worldofkj.com/article.php?i=224

 Re: Gunslinger's Top 5 Directors
Heh - - at least he picked one great director.
Peter Weir never lived up to the promise of his early films - - Master and Commander is a master's class in missing the point in a screen adaptation of a novel.
David Lean is old school in the bad way.
Micheal Mann demonstrates flashes of style but continually dragged down by his ineptness at storytelling.
Wong Kar-wai would make a better painter than a filmmaker - - his tedious melodramas might better be called melotorpors.
The runners-up list (Sofia Coppola, Alfonso CuarĂ³n, Paul Greengrass, James Ivory, Neil Jordan, Stanley Kubrick, Jim Sheridan) shows an even lower ratio of picking winners with only a single great director out of the seven listed.)

Hey Bradley, you should watch The Way Back. And don't tell me you dislike The Truman Show!
I also like the idea of replicating a top five directors list, and five essential films of theirs.

You know you can comment the whole thing on the article itself?

Because it sounds sophisticated.

 Re: Gunslinger's Top 5 Directors
It's not so far out there to think of a director who had unique and interesting qualities in his work, but who remained flawed for a variety of other reasons. Then someone comes along, is inspired by those qualities, takes them and runs with them, but without the same trappings that ensnared the initial director.
Now I have no idea if this applies in this instance, but you can certainly be inspired by a director and still surpass his quality of work.

Because he obviously lifts from Bergman a lot, and in fact the first time I heard of Bergman was when I was became obsessed with Woody Allen when I was 12 or 13. It was just a throwaway reference, and I regret including it now. As for why Bergman isn't on the list: I haven't seen all of his many, many movies, for one. I've only seen seven. Apologies for any painful cultural offense.
