To possibly reduce number of threads that might be made concerning avatars, here's a walkthrough, not complete most likely.

First, if you want to upload picture from your computer (this option might not be available at the moment though) go to profile, click on Browse button, and find the picture on your computer. Then Open, and Submit, that's it.

With uploading, your picture must be under 6kb and less than 80x80 pixels in size (or exact that size).

But what most of us are doing is linking from another site. That way avatars can be bigger.

Surf the net, find picture you like, when you find it, right click on it, then go to properties and copy url of picture. For Mozilla and I think also Opera, when right clicking you can immidiately copy url, no need to go to properties.

Now just paste url in box next to "Link to off-site Avatar:". Though some sites do not allow linking from them, so you'll either get red x, or something other. Some sites will replace that picture with porn or some 'disgusting' pictures.

To be safe of that, best way is to host it by yourself. Either from your site or some picture hosting sites. Ranchoweb and Imageshack comes to mind now - they're free. Geocities for instance doesn't allow - before you could even link from them, renaming your picture with .txt extension, but as it seems, it doesn't work anymore.

Some of these avatars are too big and makes the place look like a porn site.
