Ok. I am going to propose some changes. Please let me know your thoughts.

Sports > Merged into The Water Cooler

Literature, Music, DVD, TV, Gaming > Merged into The Corner Store

This would be a new forum, a forum where you can discuss everything related to those 5. Should be a rather active and informitive forum on par with The Water Cooler.

Surreal Life (containing The Water Cooler and Sports) would then have the forum The Corner Store added to it.

This would be just to get rid of one of the sub categories.

Earthen would finally be merged into The Corner Store where it can die its long awaited death.

Suggestions? Comments?

I don't know. First of all, let Earthen go. Completely. About The Corner Store, I don't really like the idea. It will get a bit messy in that section with a bunch of different topics all happening in one section. I don't really want the Sports to be merged with Water Cooler, either. I don't really mind the subcategories, anyways.

Merging Sports with the Water Cooler is fine by me. However, merging Music, DVD, Literature, TV and Gaming together...no, I do not really like that.

This would make it wayyyy to messy. Leave it the way it is, but get rid of Earthen.

My arguement. We have discussed this, is that I've noticed a move towards "browsing" and that people tend not to go out of the way to peak into each forum individually. There are several forums here that will be painfully slow due to the diversity of content. Literture is so broad, that the chances of more than 1 or 2 people having read the same book (unless its a biggie) is minimal. At BOM, the forum would go days without a post.

Why I suggested "The Corner Store." These are all items that are purchaseable. So, in theory, if you browse in there, and something peaks your interest, you can go down to the corner and purchase it (so to speak). Great discussion about a special edition dvd? Go check it out at the store? Some interesting stuff about a book? Go check it out at the store. An interesting album generates alot of enthusiasm? Ditto. I think it will open up a richer forum than any of them individually, and allows for people that wouldn't go specifically to a forum to still occasionally glance in and put their two cents when they recognize a title, etc. It builds for more inclusive discussions and more faces on the page.

This is the same reason we kept politics in the water cooler. Because we sensed a large request for that when I asked.

As to merging Corner Store with Cooler, for that I would say no. That really would be way to much, and threads would be dropping off the front page in the matter of minutes. Few people browse more than a page back.

As for Sports, perhaps it should be merged with TV for a seperate forum for everything that relates to semi-permanent usership (weekly games, weekly shows, etc) in contrast to object based discussions (DVD, Music, Books, and Video Games).

Am I making any sense?

I'd keep literature and TV as is, maybe broaden literature a bit like "Books, graphic novels and literature" or something similar so that people can feel free to talk about Shakespeare or Captain America. I'd eliminate Music and Gaming.

I suggest add a trailers and rumors section, both those together. Maybe call it "Upcoming Movies" or something similar, with subheading "trailers, news and rumors." Or something like that.

Just my .02 to add to the mix.

Meh, I like having one forum dedicated soley to videogames. Its my passion.

Videogames are AWESOME and deserve their own forum! That's what I say!!

Archie, that would really really kill the general movie forum.

my 2 cents has always been that everything related to movies (cept the numbers) should just belong in a general movie section, even the dvd part of it : )

Videogame should go but I do understand what you mean. Its prolly the only forum that has the best conversations and discussion. the other forums are nothing compared to it!

l think DVD should go with Movies, as really, what are DVDs but Movies on disc; BO Games with Box Office, makes sense to me...the general quiz type things could go in water Cooler; and TV, Lit., Sports, Music and Video Games all in the Water Cooler...

of course, this could make it one big mess of confusion...but...yknow...
or maybe instead of merging those 4 with Water Cooler, take those 4 and Quiz Show and make like a General Entertainment forum...

or keep each forum seperate but do something like:
Entertainment (click)
>DVD
>TV
>Lit.
>Sports
>Video Games
as subforums....or somein....that way it kinda clears the clutter of the main page, but all the forums still exist...

or you could not listen to a word l type...thats what l would do if l were you

But just think of the clash of personalities that will be had if gaming is put together with music and the others. I mean, can you imagine it? The videogame posters having to gather in the same forum as the music posters? It'll be a total culture clash! CHAOS WILL ENSUE!!

Each person that goes to different forums would want the ones they don't go to to be merged into something else. Personally I think Literature should merge into something else because I don't go to it. But I understand people do so I'm not gonna fight for that to happen. I do go to the Sports forum a lot so I don't want it to be merged into something else. I think everything is fine as it is. But don't make suggestions leaving out something just because you like to go to it and don't like to go to other ones.

Here's what I think...

1. DVD should go into the Movies section. Seems like a good idea.

2. Video Games needs to stay. Lots of good discussions going on there, and it doesn't really fit anywhere else.

3. Literature should go into The Water Cooler

4. TV, Box Office Bash, Music, Awards, Overseas, Sports and Your Take are all fine.

I think that merhing all of them together would cause a chaos...a very unpleasant one.

Literature has only been alive a couple of days and already showing more signs of life than DVD or Video Games so I don't see why it should be changed, at least not yet.

I agree. I woud not move anything into the Water Cooler. Its busy enough as it is, and as Dolce said if we moved to much in there, threads would be dropping off the page in minutes.

Perhaps we could combine just Literature with something, so more people would read/look at it.

Do NOT combine 5 forums into one. That is just not a good idea. Sorry to who proposed it, but it will cause too much messy stuff.

Meh. Won't be nearly as messy as everyone anticipates. Look at how many threads and posts cooler has...if we merged video games, books, dvds, and probably also music, we'd still have under 200 threads and 3000 posts to date. That's even less than Box Office Forum combined. Those forums really don't get that many hits per day. Sports shouldn't gointo cooler, I think if we do move it, it should go into t.v.

Its all good if people want to keep them seperate. We just thought after hearing people think shifting off the politics from cooler was a bad idea because it didn't allow for browsing, that people were actually interested in merging them. If not, we won't, its you guys' forum.

Well,

I disagree for various reasons Mr. X. I browse all the forums. The TV, Music, DVD, Sports, Literature, and Gaming tend to have 2 to 3 active threads a day. The rest dont get touched.

These forums each have their own smaller base of readers. Not everyone views them all. Some people will go to the Music and not the DVD. Others will go to Sports and DVD but not Literature. Combining them all brings everyone in, and could in general enhance the discussion in them all.

It would create another great forum, that would be viewed by so many, would be very active, and filled with interesting information.

This is what is settled: Earthen is gone.

This is what is up for discussion:

Sports moving into Water Cooler.

Music, Lit, TV, and Gaming going into a NEW forum that would be Located in Surreal Life (the same section that Water Cooler is in, but it own forum).

DVD moves to movies, or the new forum, or stays as is.

I understand how alot of you think that it could get too messy ... But I disagree, I think it would be active, and informative, as well as draw in more people.

Box office games would remain a seperate category mainly for the ammount of stickies it requires.

I think we should leave sports alone, and PERHAPS combine the others...music, lit, ect....

Threads could, but they do now in water cooler as well. You can fit almost 30 threads on a page, that is PLENTY.

There is also nothing wrong with going to page 2 to bump up a thread!
