Post Everybody's A Critic
So i've been talking with a few people and we had a conflicting discussion on this issue.

Now .. i'm creating this thread for opinions mainly and i'm not saying that i'm gonna go with any decision here that has a more favorable vote (which is why i'm not interested in making a poll on this one).

As we all know, only the mods are allowed to make threads in the critic's section. I've always found it to be wise to do so for multiple reasons including but not limited to updating thread archive properly, less mod headache with figuring out if thread archive was updated, duplicate threads, newbies creating threads at random and 1st posts of threads startting with a "Catwoman sucked ... i really hated it .... but halle berry is hot .. C+"

What is everyone's opinion. Please feel free to post whatever you want. I will not be replying to any of the posts to counter them. I'm here to read and listen to them, not defend the current structure though. Once the discussion has taken place though, i'll probably come back with my thoughts ...I'm willing to experiment with ideas but under strict guidelines but i'm not guaranteeing any change at all right now though.

Sorry but have you even asked a question here? What are you asking? If you did, I didn't see it.

Anyway, leave it alone - The critics section is for reviews - The movie sections is for off-topic movie ideas.

oops

Should only the mods be allowed to create threads in that section.

Should it be open to everyone to make a movie thread in there.

i prefer just mods being allowed to start threads there. it would save the hassle of deleting multiple threads and spamming.

I'd say leave it. It can be a nice resource and it is nice to not have numerous duplicate threads.

Mods only.

Like all said, leave it as it is. Will spare lots of trouble. I'm perfectly fine with only mods creating the threads.

I still support the permenant locking of the "Request a Thread" thread.

I say, open 'er up. The mods can delete off topic and irrelevant topics... that's their job in any forum - I don't see how or why this is any different. It seems awfully anal to want everything to look the same and adhere to a specific template.

Might be interesting to get some unique (but relevant) threads and some different movies in there. That way if you catch an old movie and want to see what others think of it, you can post it up right away without having to request it and have it approved and then posted or forgotten.

If it gets abused or too much for the mods to handle, then you can always revert back to the way it was. I don't see the harm.

Yes, leave it mod-exclusive. And furthermore, please someone keep an eye out for review threads in the Cinemania forum. I think it's useless to see someone review a movie in full, in their own unique Cinemania thread, that was released just a few months ago, just because they A. can't be bothered to find the appropriate/an appropriate thread, and B. they feel the need to showcase their review over everyone else's, as opposed to just adding to a review thread, where very few will bother to read it.

Edit: Wow, I said Speakeasy instead of Cinemania. There goes my memory.

Oh oh. If you're that type of a person, the best thing for you to do is pretty please offer to write for the main site! Then you can showcase all you like and help us in the process as well. We need reviewers to help revitalize the main site after the site problems the last two weeks. Don't be shy, please send a pm.

I've never had a problem with getting Libs or Zingy to post a thread to any film I wanted to review, and the new releases are taken care of by them. I think it would be a huge mistake to open that up to everyone. Duplicate thread from people who are too lazy to find older threads would be a problem.

If whoever bitched about it feels that strongly, why aren't they coming forward and saying anything?

Another problem with letting users have it is that they can (and they will) post anything.

There are also certain posters that post movie titles in all capital letters. Not that it's a problem to post like that, but when you're going down the first page of the section, the "INTO THE BLUE" will stick out in the mix. But, that just goes into looks and organization of the forum.

 Well, I was kind of commenting on those who post brand new threads in the Cinemania forum with their own reviews of a newly-released movie, but... well... nooo. I am shy, and I wouldn't be able to stand the pressure. This is what I get for making friends on a forum. I feel worried that they'll make fun of me.

I agree with Mav, BTW. Where are those several users that argued strongly FOR being able to create threads themselves? Hmmmm....

Guys don't put them on the line. Just ask them to write for the main site. We need help right now anyways, generating more daily material, imo. So Anyone who felt they really wanted to generate their own threads because they came back from loving/hating a film so much they wanted to write a big long review about it, let us know and we'll see what we can do if you plan on being regular (weekly or bi-weekly) about it. Thanks.

Keep it closed to the mods, although I wouldn't be opposed to letting a few more people mod it. Heck, worse that can come of it is that it makes it slightly easier for Zing and others.
