Feel like this is a flop after how Birds of Prey did.

Yeah pirates of caribbean without Jack Sparrow does not sound like a good idea. A recast might have worked but a female version of the series sounds like a rotten idea.

Robbie is really eyeing that "how fast can my career plummet" award.

I like Margot as a Pirate, but people will not be into this at all. Depp’s name has been pretty much cleared, why not just roll it back one more time? Otherwise you gotta wait at least ten years before doing a Deppless Pirates.

This is a franchise where the best thing is to chill for 20 years then reboot instead of Terminator-ing it.

I’m telling you, smartest thing to do is if the jungle cruise film is a success make a crossover where depp and other pirates crossover into a different time period. The Rock and Depp action adventure in the 1930s would already be better than anything else they are planning.

Depp is synonymous with the franchise.

If they want a huge blockbuster, just bring both Bloom and Knightley back with Depp. Knightley is still very much in demand in her smaller films, but she could probably use a big mainstream hit to have some clout. Not sure if she wants to, but a lead role in a big blockbuster would certainly give her more power to make films she wants to make.

The last two movies made 1 billion and 800 million respectively, so Depp still has it. And his reputation is much better now, as it was revealed that he was not the abusive one in his marriage.

A female version would work MUCH better with Keira as the lead. We are talking about a difference between a 120 million and a 180 million film. Bringing Penelope back wouldn't hurt either (I assume she didn't die?). With Keira, Penelope and Margot, I could see 200+ million. Combined, they could have tremendous star power. And all three are known as "strong" women, which is obviously what they are trying to sell with this. A lot of girls/women idolize them, especially Keira.

Without Keira this would be an uphill struggle. Margot is not a star yet.

That is a good idea as well. If they want to do female Pirates movie it should have Kiera and Penelope in there t rather than just starting with a new actress right away.

They are better off keeping Sparrow and just adding Margot + having Kiera etc return.

These 'all female' reboots do not work.

Honestly, I don’t think anyone cares about knightly. If anything she could be easily replaced with daisy Ridley and most wouldn’t even know the difference, accept she has the SW momentum.

Let's break this down. Margot Robbie is terrific. If anyone can jump into a lead role in this franchise that isn't Depp, I think she can pull it off. Little bit of Harley Quinn in there, she'd be fantastic.

Where this all goes to shit is that the script will suck. Then everyone will blame the studio for trying to do a female reboot, Margot Robbie will get shit on, the uproar continues.

With Elliot and Mazin on board, the script could be very strong. Mazin has a very uneven track record, but he didn't have any power over his assignments until he made Chernobyl on his own. Which has brilliant writing.

If the film has some great marketing, then it can become a major hit with just Margot.

I really don't think Harley Quinn should be considered as a comparison point for Pirates movie. Also even with a good script BoP bombed at BO so it's not about script really.

I'd be more interested in this than another Depp Pirates film. I checked out of that series a while ago. Though I too agree with the sentiment of bringing back Knightley.

BTW, how famous Margot is in USA? Because I don't think that a regular Finnish person in here has any idea who she is. They probably recognize her as "that actress" if you show them pictures, but that's as far it goes.

She might be much more famous in USA.

She's really not that famous outside of sites like this, I mean had the Harley film did well and not flop you might have a case for starpower. But even as far as superhero actresses she's definitely less well known that Scarjo, Gal, Brie, etc. She's about on par with say Zoe Saldana (But I doubt most know she's even Gamora as well) they know the characters she's done, but that's about it. She's still mostly known as the hot blonde from Wolf of Wall Street.

She is a well known movie star at this point with multiple lead roles and Oscar nominations and is one of the hottest actresses. She’s not prime Angelina Jolie or Julia Roberts level in terms of stardom or anything but is a solid A- lister.

Yeah you can't just throw her in the "hot blonde" pile when she has two oscar nominations, including one for lead performance.

Nobody is doubting that she is a good actress, hence the Oscar noms, but do people actually know who she is? A lot of relative unknowns get Oscar nominations, and audiences won't pay any long-term attention to it. Almost nobody saw Tonya or Bombshell.

And she's way less known than Theron or Kidman (I love her and think she's great, but few people know who she is)

Brie Larson has an Oscar and Starred in a 400 million dollar film. She's still less known than Scarlett or Jlaw. Guarantee 95% of the country wouldn't even pronounce her first name right.

yeah this sounds like a fail. I love Margot but this sounds a lot more unappealing than a Harley Quinn movie and Birds of Prey sadly didn't do big #s.

She should focus on getting Gotham City Sirens on the big screen...

I think the Harley Quinn solo movie was meant to be her 'superstar' moment but we know what happened. I agree that she's Hollywood famous but not global famous quite yet. She's not at peak JLaw level fame.
