So...who should direct Star Wars Episode IX?
No surprise, Colin Trevorrow has been dumped as Episode IX director. This marks three successive SW films where Disney/Lucasfilm have had issues with the director(s). http://variety.com/2017/film/news/colin ... 202548088/Quote: Disney issued a short statement on Tuesday about the departure without naming a successor.
“Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on ‘Star Wars: Episode IX,'” the statement said. “Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process, but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.”
Sources indicated to Variety that the split stemmed from differences on the script between Trevorrow and studio executives. The film was expected to hit theaters on May 24, 2019, with production expected to start in early 2018. --------------------------------------------- So who would be your choice to take over director reigns?

Kathleen will be in charge and neuter any director's vision, so they could get Scorcese or a first time hire and the film will probably be the same quality.
And three successive? I assume you're referring to Edwards and Lord and Miller? But Johnson is in between them, so it's not successive.

Yes, i forgot about Rian Johnson.
I guess he started working on Episode 8 while Rogue One was in production and having re-shoots so it feels like 3 successive.
While it does feel like Kathleen and co. are running the show here, it does seem that Rian Johnson managed to what he wanted. I guess we'll see when Episode 8 is released.

Re: So...who should direct Star Wars Episode IX?
Rian Johnson. They should also let him write the script.
They had recently hired some TV hack to help with the Episode 9 script which was a terrible move.
If they even dare bring back JJ Abrams for Episode 9, dear god it will be the creative death of this trilogy.
The films will make gobs of money no matter what, so that is not even a consideration.
Creatively, I think Rian Johnson would be the best choice. Also particularly because apparently he has had a good relationship with Kennedy and Lucasfilm so far.
It seems the problem Lucasfilm has is keeping a consistent creative vision going along. Giving Rian Johnson the director and writer's chairs would keep things consistent.

Just get Abrams back. He did a fine job. Some people act like Star Wars is the creative hub of Hollywood, lol. It has not been that for a long, long, long, long time. Let Abrams make more fan-wank.

I could see them bring JJ or continue with Rian. I am not sure if they would bring in someone new at this point.

I'd be happy with either Johnson or Abrams.

In 1977 George Lucas himself told Rolling Stone magazine: "What I want to do is direct the last sequel. I could do the first one and the last one and let everyone else do the ones in between."I'd be down with that.

Re: So...who should direct Star Wars Episode IX?
I read a few things yesterday that suggested JJ Abrams and Kennedy didn't get along either so his return is probably doubtful.
I can't imagine how f--king dull the directors who will even consider directing a Star Wars movie will be going forward. It's going to be your Ron Howards, Joe Johnstons, Favreau, etc. No one even remotely exciting is going to want to be the next Lord/Miller, Edwards, etc.

If they're happy with the quality of 8 and have a good relationship with him, just giving 9 to Rian is the clear choice

Re: So...who should direct Star Wars Episode IX?
JJ will be both directing and writing again? Wow, Lucasfilm, just wow.
This trilogy is now mostly dead to me. I'm only interested in Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi and that's it.
