Transformers vs. Pirates of the Caribbean
Which past it's prime critically derided CG fest franchise is better overall? Or less bad if you hate both?
I haven't seen the second two Transformers films, I think I liked the first but the second was so bad I've not revisited it in years. I at least like every Pirates film.
So Pirates.

Re: Transformers vs. Pirates of the Caribbean
Pirates by a substantial landslide. It's not even close.
I absolutely love the original Pirates trilogy, and the fifth film is very good. The fourth isn't the best but still OK.
Transformers on the other hand has one "OK" installment (the third) and the rest all suck. I couldn't even finish the fourth.

Re: Transformers vs. Pirates of the Caribbean
Transformers has one good movie: The first one. Spielberg's hands are all over it. Then it's clear that Spielberg became a producer in pretty much name only and Bay went "full Bay". Two is shit, three is slightly less shittier, and four is only watchable because I saved it for home.
With Pirates, I might be one of the rare few who thinks there hasn't been a bad film so far. One is perfect popcorn entertainment. Two is a blast. Three is fun, but a step down from two. Four is good, but it's the least re-watchable. And the latest one I'd put on par with three. And even though it's done sloppily, I liked what they did with Barbosa. I feel like they're pushing their luck with the after-credits scene though. The series could end now and I'd be perfectly happy.
So yeah, Pirates.
Oh, and if Depp is phoning it in, he, like Brando, is pretty damn good at it.

Re: Transformers vs. Pirates of the Caribbean
I actually remember being upset when they announced a fourth Pirates because I love the first three so much. The second and third are legitimately great popcorn films. It's funny that so many thinkpieces are coming up now about how they are undervalued when everyone was sharpening the knives when they originally came out. I still think that Will and Elizabeth are the core of why the series works and why the fourth film suffers. Even their brief appearances in the fifth film elevate it to an extreme degree. Like, bash the sequels all you want but nothing in Transformers has anything on the emotional highs of the Pirates series. I basically agree with what this article is saying: http://www.vulture.com/2017/05/what-mak ... great.html

Pirates at its worst is at least ok.
Transformers 2-4 are painful to sit through.

Re: Transformers vs. Pirates of the Caribbean
Easily Transformers. Dark of the Moon and Extinction are good films. The first is ok too. The second isn't great but I would rather watch that than any of the Pirates films right now.
The first Pirates is ok. The rest are shiiiiit.

Pirates, easily. The first three are great, gorgeous popcorn films. Only the first Transformers is slightly tolerable.

Re: Transformers vs. Pirates of the Caribbean
Pirates. Completely stopped caring about Transformers after 2nd film being complete shit and the third not redeeming it. May or may not catch up on it at some point. I didn't like Pirates 4 much but am still vaguely interested in seeing the 5th.

Re: Transformers vs. Pirates of the Caribbean
The first Pirates is the best film of the whole bunch and the 2nd Transformers is the worst, but the 3rd and 4th Transformers are pleasant blockbuster fare I don't mind giving another watch. They're a bit annoyingly dumb, but I prefer that over the dullness of Pirates 2-4 which has left me completely fatigued over the franchise. Overall it's close, but I'd finally choose Transformers as the more favorable franchise at this point. A lot of that has to with basically looking forward to The Last Knight while I wouldn't care if I never saw Dead Man Tell No Tales.

From memory of first viewing:
DMC: A+ TF1: A COTBP: A ROTF: A- OST: B (actually can't remember this at all) AWE: B- DOTM: C- (is LaBeouf gone from this one?) Wahlberg one: probably like D?
Actually, as time goes by, you can hardly remember any of the crappy movies you watch.

Re: Transformers vs. Pirates of the Caribbean
What's going on? BK gave a sequel an A+ Next thing will be Libs awarding a B+ to a rotten flick. Nah, don't be silly. That's impossible.

Re: Transformers vs. Pirates of the Caribbean
Honestly they're about equal for me.
Black Pearl - A+ Dead Man's Chest - A Transformers - A Revenge of the Fallen - A- Age of Extinction - B+ Dark of the Moon - B At World's End - B Stranger Tides - C
So Pirates has the best and the worst. But I'll give the edge to Transformers since I'm definitely gonna see The Last Knight in theaters while Tell No Tales is still a maybe.

Re: Transformers vs. Pirates of the Caribbean
Pirates would be such a stellar franchise if some more care was put into the last two. Release one every couple of years, make tons of money, get lots of praise, go home happy. But obviously quality has declined.
Transformers seems to stay alive in defiance of every law of decency. Money aside, it feels like the franchise should at least be in someone else's hands by now, and now there is a universe being created? Yikes. But it makes money.

Somehow Transformers gets me to see every film, while I haven't bothered with PotC 4/5. So... Transformers?
