How much do you watch before you stop?
If there was a series of movies or tv show that you'd heard was great, and you started it and you were underwhelmed, how much would you watch before you gave up?

I never stop movies, I watch any utter shit until its very end. Never walk out of a movie theatre either.
As for the series, it depends. If I don't like it from the get-go, maybe after 2-3 episodes. If I used to like it and it later turned into shit, it might take a couple of seasons for me to admit to myself that it is lost beyond any hope.

I'm just asking because my friend thought the first Potter film was alright, but he did not like Chamber of Secrets and didn't really watch any of the ones after that, even though the next one is the one where it gets good.

I'm like your friend. Turned off Chamber of Secrets and that was it until I saw and liked Goblet but still never bothered with the rest.
TV shows 3-4 episodes unless I totally hate it. Then I'll google or go onto KJ to see if the show gets better invade its worth hanging in.

He told m he just wasn't into wizards and fantasy. He never even tried Lord of the Rings.
But he loves Star Wars. The Force is definitely not magic and it's not like the Jedi are a type of wizard.
I also don't understand how anyone thinks Chamber is worse than Stone. It's pretty similar, just darker and done better, with cool new characters like Dobby, Lucius, Myrtle and Lockhart. And the direction is better too.

Id never leave the theater. At home though? I turned off Olympus Has Fallen and the Robocop remake after about ten minutes for example. I don't give many Fs or Ds because of this.

Re: How much do you watch before you stop?
Movies - I'd never leave the theater. I paid my money, I'm getting what I bought. There's also the 1 in 99 Hail Mary chance that a movie can redeem itself. Maybe not to the point of liking it, but at least becoming interesting. I don't leave unless there is an emergency.
TV - It has to be something that I really enjoy if I stick with it. I don't watch many shows on a consistent basis. I've seen shows I've liked here and there (Fresh of the Boat, Blackish), but for some reason most don't hook me in.
And it'd have to take for some very shitty television for me to ditch a show that I love. I can't even think of a time I've ditched a show...actually, just thought of one - The Drew Carey Show. I love that show. It might be my favorite sitcom (Seinfeld might have it beat). But once Christa Miller left (Kate), the show took a nosedive (not even because of her leaving - she didn't hold the show together - the writing just sucked). And the "experimental" final year is pretty much unwatchable.

Re: How much do you watch before you stop?
I think I've only walked out of like one movie in recent memory and it was Crank: High Voltage. And I didn't even think it was reprehensible or anything, I was just so bored. I generally believe in staying through the entire thing no matter what. I came very, very close to leaving during Cosmopolis and The Giver.
As for TV I've covered this in other threads but it generally takes like 2-3 episodes to hook me in, and I used to never drop shows unless they got unwatchable like "Heroes." Now I've been dropping things a lot more frequently that I've watched for a long time, particularly broadcast stuff that fails to excite me like it once did.

Re: How much do you watch before you stop?
Movies - never stop
TV - I don't watch too many series (takes time away from watching movies and video games), so I do select beforehand the ones that I think I will like. Once I start, I finish them too, even if later seasons drop in quality. Right now the only series I'm following are Walking Dead, AHS, Homeland, Bates Motel, Ash vs Evil Dead, GoT and Making a Murderer.
Haven't started yet but will be next: Westworld and Designated Survivor.

Re: How much do you watch before you stop?
I've never stopped watching a film. Though I have lost focus if I'm watching it at home, and I have fallen asleep twice, with Walking Tall and American Gangster.
I've definitely stopped watching TV shows, but usually it's more of forgetting about it, or if I'm binging just not being able to finish because we get sidetracked.
And as for a series of films, I usually always try to watch them all, even if they suck.

I fall asleep a lot (for a few minutes) in the theatre because I watch movies at 10 am, usually after not much sleep and often ina super comfy theatre (with large reclining chairs and you can also put your feet up) and if the film is boring, well...

I've gave up on AHS 4 episodes into Raonoke.

Re: How much do you watch before you stop?
I always finish movies.
When I was in high school I'd pretty much endure TV shows until their end no matter how bad they would get. In college I'd put up a while thinking maybe the show will turn around and become watchable again, until ultimately deciding to drop a show. Nowadays I can drop a show almost instantly. Though in some cases it helps if I start watching a show while the hiatus season is on. I probably would drop The OA if I started the show in September. I finished it just because there was no other current TV show going on in December.

I gave Sing about 20 minutes before having enough and saw La La Land for third time instead.
