He has just made some bad choices like Lone Ranger and was stuck in a contract to do Alice through the Looking Glass. Rumor is he will either be the bad guy Gellert Grindelwald or could play a young Albus Dumbledore.

They're probably very much aware of that especially if the character becomes more prominent over the 5 films. I doubt it's Depp though. Isn't Dumbledore already confirmed for part 1 anyway.

I was a little off, however they would be in the mid 40s during the time of the film. Depp is only 50 and doesn't look it.
