 Favorite Summer Movie
Like with my "Most exciting film of the summer" thread, I will exclude Civil War from the poll so it doesn't run amok. Nothing was even close to it.
So for me that leaves Conjuring 2, Kubo and Ghostbusters. Definitely not what I would have predicted going in to the season. Ghost and Kubo both fade a little towards the end, so I gotta give it to James Wan and The Conjuring 2. It is well crafted and constantly eerie. It's The Shining paced like an action movie. A rare horror sequel that is better than the original, and somehow better equipped to lead an expanded universe than Superman.

Wouldn't the last option also be used for Civil War?

For Summer, I guess Weiner was my favorite. Star Trek Beyond for a studio film.

 Re: Favorite Summer Movie
I'm not going to vote yet as I've only seen 3 on the list. Civil War probably would win this hands down. But right now it's either X-Men: Apocalypse or Blood Father.

 Re: Favorite Summer Movie
Civil War is not a summer release, so that is why it is not on the list.

X-Men Apocalypse.
(It would have been Captain Fantastic if it had a tighter second half.)

Of the ones I've seen, I voted for Kubo.

Chippy wrote: June 20th was the start of Summer. So... That is certainly the astronomical definition of the start of summer, but many people consider the summer movie season to start earlier than that.

Though I don't consider The Lobster a summer release.

 Re: Favorite Summer Movie
Including May:
1. Kubo and the Two Strings 2. Captain America: Civil War 3. Pete's Dragon 4. Finding Dory 5. Ghostbusters
Excluding May, bump everything up a spot and add Star Trek Beyond in 5th.
I still need to see a few films, but overall, not a bad summer.

 Re: Favorite Summer Movie
Four stars and above
1. Pete's Dragon 2. Finding Dory 3. Star Trek Beyond 4. Swiss Army Man
A couple of awful films (ID42, Bad Moms), a few mediocre ones (Suicide Squad, Sausage Party, The Secret Life of Pets, Me Before You), quite a few good ones, select very good ones (2-4), and one great one.
In other words, it was a pretty typical summer. The only thing it was lacking was a universal instant classic. If more people had seen it, Pete's Dragon might (should) have been that movie, but hopefully that'll find its audience when it comes out on home video.

Not the best Summer for sure, but I can't say I saw too many films I hated. Just a lot that were "all right, keep the line moving."
