Spielberg's next could be "Ready Player One"
Quote: Warner Bros. may have provided Christopher Nolan with his next film, with Tracking Boardreporting that the studio has offered him the chance to direct sci-fi project Ready Player One.
Based on the novel by Ernest Cline, the film will be set in 2044, where a teenage boy is steadily becoming obsessed with a virtual-reality utopia known as the OASIS.
This digital world promises untold riches to anyone who can unlock the pop-culture puzzles embedded by its creator, but unfortunately for our hero, there are other players willing to kill for a shot at the jackpot...
Zak Penn has written a script, although has freely admitted taking some major liberties with the source material, given the prohibitive expense of securing rights to all the pop-culture properties involved.
Whether or not the project will float Nolan’s boat remains to be seen, but the report claims that an offer is currently on the table, with the director currently mulling over his options… Hope he doesn't take it.

Re: Nolan's next could be "Ready Player One"
But he seems like a big ideas man, so smaller scale would eventually turn into large ideas anyway.

Big ideas don't necesarily lead into $250m movies.

Re: Nolan's next could be "Ready Player One"
It would need to be re-written, imo, if he took it.

Re: Nolan's next could be "Ready Player One"
The book is fantastic and is very funny at times with all the pop culture references. So not Nolan's cup of tea. Movie could be great because the source material is.

Yeah this project is not for Nolan, unless it is heavily rewritten. I do enjoy the book, although it's very cliched and predictable.

Sounds as if it could be a solid major-studio project for Edgar Wright after his Ant-Man fell through.

Re: Nolan's next could be "Ready Player One"
Yeah I hope he goes smaller also. Prestige and Memento are his best IMO. Certainly a break from sci-fi would do him good.

Book is awesome, not something Nolan would adapt though.

Sounds kine Sword Art Online-like with its basic premise.

Re: Nolan's next could be "Ready Player One"
Spielberg announces lots of films and then directs half of those. See Interstellar, American Sniper and Robopocalypse.

Re: Nolan's next could be "Ready Player One"
If done right Ready Player One could indeed be Speilberg's biggest film since Jurassic Park.
