Post Planned sequels that were cancelled?
I've been thinking of compiling a list and writing an article about sequels that were at some sort of planning stage (either announced, or writer hired or release date set or something else solid), but then cancelled. I don't mean sequels that people just hope(d) for, but that didn't happen like Dredd 2 or Hellboy III, but actual cancelled sequels or sequels with zero progress in many years.

Off the top of my head I can think of:

City of Ashes
RED 3 (writer was hired)
The Amazing Spider-Man 3 (and 4)
Inside Man 2
Fantastic Four 2
Terminator: Genisys sequel
Superman Returns sequel
Rambo 5 (though I guess this might still be revived now that Sly did not win the Oscar)
Mrs. Doubtfire 2
Vampire Academy 2
Eastern Promises 2
School of Rock 2
The Subtle Knife
Wild Hogs 2
Airplane III
Old School 2
The Break-Up 2

According to Arnold, the TG sequel is still on, but yeah, it's probably a matter of time.

Spider-Man 4
Jinx (spinoff technically)
Ghostbusters 3 (sorta)
The Golden Compass

The Subtle Knife is The Golden Compass 2. But thanks for the others.

TDS, first time I read about Halloween:

Asylum (Matt Venne)
Halloween II (Alexandre Bustillo, Julien Maury)

Can you shed a few words?

Only thing I know about Halloween II with the Inside guys is that Sheriff Brackett was revealed to be Laurie's biological father.

Asylum was a truly awful script where, after a failed attempt at executing Michael Myers, Smith's Grove Sanitarium goes into lockdown. A nurse there is the main character as she tries to keep ahead of Michael and not be murdered by one of the other loonies in the asylum. Charles Cyphers' Brackett was in this draft, and he stuck around just long enough to die.

Sinister Six
Wanted 2
The Vega Brothers
Austin Powers 4/Dr Evil Spinoff

Thanks.

At what point in the Halloween franchise was Asylum supposed to take place?

No they just never happened.

Though there certainly was talk of the fourth AP film being a Dr Evil one but not sure how far that went.

Jamie Bell said last year that shooting would likely start at the end of 2016.

There was an Inside Man 2?

Aren't there a bunch of sequels to Miramax movies that were announced after some deal? Crouching Tiger 2, Bad Santa 2, Trainspotting 2 and some other random crap.

Would have liked to have seen Golden Compass 2.

Would the Narnia movies count? I'm sure they planned more.

Kung Fu Panda/Shrek- lots of Dreamworks movies were announced as multi-part series.

National Treasure 3? The actual non-Alien Prometheus...okay being facetious.

Mac and Me 2.

And there were various stages of development for both The Silver Chair and the Magicians Nephew. The Silver Chair's script has been finished, but it has no studio willing to greenlight production.

I think the only thing to do with Narnia is make a new miniseries like the one from the 80's, but make all 7 books instead of just four.

It was a sequel to Halloween: Resurrection. Michael killed Busta Rhymes in the opening scene.

Halloween 9 had always been rough.

There was also scripts that took place on a movie set, and I think they were trying to bring back Josh Hartnett, or or at least come back with the character.

Also forgot:

Goonies Never Say Die (Starts at one of their funerals, lol)
Naked Gun 4 was being developed at the time of Neilson's death
Spaceballs 3: The Search for Spaceballs 2
Unbreakable (I remember they were toying with the idea at least)
Crimson Eagle (Romancing the Stone 3)

Josh Hartnett was in early drafts of Asylum, though he wasn't in the version I read.
