 Re: Video Game Movies
Personally, I would like to see a reboot of Tomb Raider based on the newer game and the upcoming Rise of the Tomb Raider. Recast Lara Croft and give her a grittier, more survivalist personality than the rich, arrogant, risk taker in the Jolie version. Watching the E3 game trailer for ROTTR just made me want to see a movie of it.
I also think the timing is perfect for a Mass Effect movie to get made. It's awesome science fiction, and with the return of Star Wars and the announcement of a new Mass Effect game at the end of 2016, the time is now to make it.

 Re: Video Game Movies
With its director and its stars, Assassin's Creed could very well become the best video game adaptation ever. If it does, it could do the same for video game adaptations as X-Men did for comic book films in 2000.

 Re: Video Game Movies
Why can't they just make Metal Gear, or Halo.
Also where the hell is Resident Evil 6? Kind of weird that the final film will be released 4-5 years after the last. I think Milla go pregnant. It was suppose to be out this year right? Maybe the wait will help give the film a nice domestic boost, being the last film and all.

 Re: Video Game Movies
I feel like Pixels should be added to the mix. I have a feeling Angry Birds is going to try the same thing it is doing and just fail miserably.

 Re: Video Game Movies
Only one made it over $100m (and it was one of the first ones). That pretty much tells us how popular video game movies can be, and why no studio should make them ever again.

If The Wizard is in that list shouldn't Tron and Tron Legacy be in there too?

Disney needs to make a movie out of the Epic Mickey video game. It would be so well, EPIC!

Rockstar needs to get off its ass and let someone make a Grand Theft Auto movie.

 Re: Video Game Movies
The problem with video game movie adaptations is tha stories for video games depend on non-linear strorytelling. So in order to make a good movie based on a video game, it requires a good deal of artistic liberty which in turns requires a good artist directing the film.

I would kill for a well-made Legend of Zelda movie. I just can't decide if it should be animated or live action.

 Re: Video Game Movies
I read an article recently that Bethesda has continually denied any of its games being made into movies, though several studios have come to them. They say they are worried about losing creative control. I guess I can understand that, and with fallout and elder scrolls being open world games, they'd be tough to adapt. I've heard Rockstar has a similar stance on gta. Hopefully Uncharted, Assassin's creed, and or warcraft can ease that anxiety. I still think they should make a Mass Effect movie series.

 Re: Video Game Movies
Are there drama based video games?
I think Twisted Metal could do really well.
Another major problem for Video Game Movies is they don't exactly attract the talent A- list directors. I mean shit Uwe Boll. Let's also not forget that the ones most like had involvement from Paul W. S. Anderson. Mortal Kombat (2 sucked without him) Resident Evil, even Death Race which can be loosely called a Twisted Metal knock off. Maybe he brings the right amount of camp and plausibility to them. Also he does bring the fun usually.
Lara Croft at least gave us Daniel Craig.

 Re: Video Game Movies
Good directors rarely want to touch video-game adaptations, and the shit ones have no idea how to do them. What seems to happen at the moment is that most attempted adaptations are made into throwaway actioners with B-level star power and the worst scripts imaginable. Though I also believe there is a fairly high amount of snobbery among critics when reviewing a video-game adaptation.
