Re: How many yearly #1 films have you seen?
I have not seen:
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (I have seen the 1954 version, but not the silent one) Over the Hill to the Poorhouse The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse The Covered Wagon Alamo of the South Seas The Singing Fool The Broadway Melody Tom Sawyer (1930) Top Hat How to Become a Detective You Can't Take It with You Sergeant York This Is the Army Going My Way Song of the South (I have heard so much conversation and debate regarding this one, I almost feel as if I have seen it) Forever Amber The Snake Pit Quo Vadis (This sounds terrific. I am sad I have not seen it) Swiss Family Robinson
I may have watched parts of White Christmas a long, long time ago, but maybe not... I can't remember precisely, so I cannot in good faith say I have seen it.

I wasn't that enamored with the first and the second doing those incredible gangbuster numbers turned me off it completely.

Why is this called how many have you seen, and everyone is listing what they haven't seen?

Re: How many yearly #1 films have you seen?
For the past decade or so, I have generally tried to avoid the yearly #1 film - - it is one of the most reliable predictors of crappiness.

Re: How many yearly #1 films have you seen?
I like the way that list goes into the future, too. And it is interesting to see how many big money-making films have been lost to history. This once more proves that real quality is judged by time, not instant success.
Starting in 1930, I have not seen:
1930 Tom Sawyer 1932 The Most Dangerous Game 1936 How to Become a Detective 1939 Gone with the Wind 1943 This is the Army 1947 Forever Amber 1948 The Snake Pit 1949 Samson and Delilah 1956 The Ten Commandments 1957 The Bridge on the River Kwai 1958 South Pacific 1959 Ben-Hur 1962 The Longest Day 1963 Cleopatra 1966 The Bible 1971 Billy Jack 1973 The Exorcist 1976 Rocky 1978 Grease 1986 Top Gun 1987 3 Men and a Baby 1990 Home Alone 2000 How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Re: How many yearly #1 films have you seen?
Three Men and a Baby is the most random #1 I've ever seen. Directed by Spock of all people. But Hey Cheers and Magnum were the two biggest TV shows at the time, and of course The Gutt!. People forget that almost 50 million turned in for the end of Magnum. Also an extremely underrated and entertaining film.

Re: How many yearly #1 films have you seen?
I'm confused by it. Wiki has Fiddler on the Roof as the #1 film of 1971, and Billy Jack isn't even in the top 25?
IMDb says it received a limited release in the US in May 1971, and later a re-release in 1973.

Re: How many yearly #1 films have you seen?
Perhaps the-numbers added the re-release to the original year. Its not the most accurate site.
