Post Magnolia to distribute Jack & Diane!
Teenage Lesbian Werewolves
By Ryan C. Adams

That got your attention, dint it?

New York Magazine's Culture Vulture has this:

"With her much-acclaimed teen-pregnancy comedy Juno landing in theaters today, Ellen Page's sudden success is getting a long-gestating project off the ground. Some time ago — before her role in Juno, or even Hard Candy — Page was attached to a project called Jack and Diane, an off-beat drama about a love affair between two teenage girls..."

aww, sounds cute. Off-beat, you say? How off-beat are we talking? /film fills in the blanks:

Bradley Rust Gray’s film is about two teenage lesbians (Ellen Page and Oliva Thrillby, above), who meet in New York City and spend the night kissing ferociously. Diane’s charming innocence quickly begins to open Jack’s tough skinned heart. But, when Jack discovers that Diane is leaving the country in a week she tries to push her away. Diane must struggle to keep their love alive while hiding the secret that her newly awakened sexual desire occasionally turns her into a werewolf.

As Juno says: "I don't really know what kind of girl I am."

Sounds great!

Here's the IMDB page: http://imdb.com/title/tt0850677/

Well it's new to me :P.

And Joe, I hear ya. There are more than enough vampire movies. I personally wish the werewolf genre would make a comeback. They just keep making crappy ones (well, Cursed was a guilty pleasure, and the Ginger Snaps flicks rock). I wish they'd make a truly great one that could be a breakout success and put to rest the bad name that werewolf movies have gotten.

The Ginger Snaps series was well-recieved I believe. At least the original one was which is one of my favorite films. I like them all though.

Can we stop with the unreadable font colors?

That blue color is horrid.

Well I don't think it's unreadable. It's not like it's yellow.

And Jack is probably short for Jackie or something.

The Ginger Snaps series was very well-received, but it's not successful enough to clear the bad name that werewolf movies have gotten.

Ellen Page and Olivia Thirlby have been taken off the IMDB page for the lesbian werewolf movie.

Olivia did mention the movie in an interview this summer (http://nymag.com/guides/summer/2008/47970/):

Meanwhile, Jack and Diane, a werewolf-lesbian picture she was to have done with Page, hasn’t been greenlit. “I mean, it’s half-animated and nonlinear and Ellen’s in a very high place right now and there’s just too much focus on her and her career for her to be able to go off and do some super-experimental flick.”

I'm not surprised that Ellen probably won't be doing this movie, but it does piss me off. She gets bigger so now she can't do something like this. She's just going to be typecast and play the same old characters now I'm sure. She was basically Juno in Smart People (a movie she really annoyed me in). I loved her in Hard Candy and Juno, but am getting sick of her schtick now. Her doing this movie would have at least been somewhat ballsy on her part and shown that she hasn't changed too much since becoming big. But clearly she won't do this movie anymore. And I bet you anything that if Hard Candy had come along after Juno, there's no way she'd have done it.

Yeah, she's doomed to play the quirky smart-ass for the rest of her career, it seems even though, in my humble opinion, the character has gotten really old already. Regarding Smart People though, it was filmed before Juno. I do wonder what she'll do when she's not young anymore. I still wish she would have done that Sam Raimi horror movie Drag Me to Hell. Whip It!, her roller derby movie directed by Drew Barrymore, just sounds stupid.

The plot synopsis via IMDB:

Quote:
In Bodeen, Texas, an indie-rock loving misfit finds a way of dealing with her small-town misery after she discovers a roller derby league in nearby Austin.

Sounds like to me that she'll be playing a variation on her schtick once again.

This lesbian werewolf movie didn't sound very good. So good for her to get out of it. Granted, the end result could go both ways.

She should have stuck with Drag Me To Hell though.. and then Whip It!.

The movie is back on.

http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/17097

Thirlby is still involved, but Alison Pill, recently seen in Milk, has been cast in the Page role. That's fine with me. Pill is a very good actress. I loved her in Milk, even though she didn't have much screentime. Funny how Page has been recast by Alison's in horror films (Lohman in Drag Me To Hell, Pill in this). Her loss. She's just going to keep doing safe roles I guess now that she got famous.
