It doesn't call me for some reason. bABA and several others are uber excited for this. I love McGregor, so think that might have been a fun cast, but I don't like William's casting in another animated movie where he plays guide. Everytime I hear Robin William's voice in the trailer I think "Genie? Is that you? Should I keep my arms and legs inside the carpet at all times?"

I'm seeing this:
1. Because my little brother is interested.
2. Because CGI movies like this RARELY dissapoint (Nemo being the exception)
3. Because i'm backing a Halle Berry movie.....

I just saw the trailer, and it doesn't look that good to me, despite the RT rating. Besides, CGI these days CGI is such a go-to cash-in (no plot necessary) that I won't trust a CGI movie sight unseen unless it comes from Pixar.

Erendis, why? because Ice Age and Antz are such brilliant movies...surely it's shown that Pixar aren't the only one's to make CGI movies that are actually good.

Oops, sorry bABA. I thought this was on your anticipation list from jan-april!
Anyways, Appy, don't see it. RT is killing it right now. Its barely fresh which is pretty rare for these 3d animation movies.

NYTimes hated it...paid homage to Pixar and Japan and said everyone else needs to give up.

Well I actually look at reviews alot. :???:
I think they do matter, but I've also learned how to "read" them. Horror flicks do poorly across the board with reviewers, so when I see any break 50%, I figure its actually ok. Imports rarely ever drop below 80% so when they do, it meant reviewers were 1. Taking them seriously rather than just giving them high rateings for being imports, or 2. They really did suck. I tend to read the commentary because sometimes they rate an import rotten for the same reasons I would rate it fresh, pace, dialogue, etc. Commedies are hot or miss. They tend to hover around 70% for good ones, so if I see a comedy with 80 or 90% I can assume its pretty good. On the other hand, dramas do exceptionally well, so if I see one barely over 60% I might hold off on watching it. These animation ones tend to be like that. Run checks on everything Pixar has done. I doubt it bottoms below 85% ever. So when I see 67% for Robots, yeah, I think it might actually be that bad that even critics can't love it.

Even Shrek and Shrek 2 faired above 85% on RottenTomatoes. Shark Tale on the other hand bottomed out at 33%. So it looks like Robots is rather mediocre. I will probably end up seeing just because I have many younger siblings and since they have been so nice to me while I am recovering I figure it will be nice to take them out to see a movie. I might go tomorrow actually, or Saturday evening.

exactly...and most people will say that Shrek was a better animated movie than Shark Tale. In fact, I'm pretty sure everyone would say it, even people that didn't like Shrek.
33% huh? So Robots is at least better than that. Let us know how it is. I'm saving my money.

Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen a CGI film worse then Shark Tale, other then of course some of the DTV Barbie films that my sisters have to buy.

I agree with Dolce on the RT meter. Foreign films get an automatic +60% just for being foreign, horror movies get an automatic -30% just for being horror, Reloaded's first 50% actually came from Matrix 1, animated movies get an automatic +20-30% because everybody grew up with Disney, and so on.
I'm surprised that Shark Tale scored that low. I guess that reviewers are starting to take off these automatic blinders and review the elements of the movie rather than giving points for the medium. Now they lump all the tech and design into the catch-all phrase "production values," as in: "The production values were high, but the plot nd character development sucked...56%.."

It could have also been the fact that Shark Tale was perhaps the first theatrically released computer animated film that completely blew.
As for reviewers being extra kind to animated films, I disagree. I mean, look at the RT scores for recently released films like Brother Bear, Atlantis, and The Polar Express. Even films like Ice Age and Tresure Planet, which received moderately good reviews, were criticized by some for lack of characterization.
As for Robots, I think the animation looks gorgeous (Newsweek says it's the most impressive yet), but in terms of content, the trailers have been pretty putrid. I might actually be seeing it today, though. Let's hope that scene with the robot dancing to Britney Spears is trailer-exclusive.

Reviewers are extra kind to PIXAR animated films. They are being hailed as if they were the second coming of christ when in fact most of the time they are really nothing special and highly overrated. Just IMHO of course.

I took my younger siblings to see it today, and while I won't have a full review until late this evening, it was actually rather fun. The animation was excellent and the pop-culture references were scattered, but quite good (unlike Shark Tale).

On the subject of Robots, I'm guessing the film will do decently and open over 40+ simply because it's animated with so many "big" names lending their voices to it. I was going to buy a ticket to it just to see the ROTS trailer on the big screen and then switch tickets to see something else, but there isn't anything worth seeing at the theatre right now, so I'll just wait for Ring 2 to come out for that and in the meantime download the ROTS trailer.

Ouch, Robots has officially become rotten, and it's only heading down. This is me regretting my 39 million prediction just because of the theater count... at this point I'm thinking 30-35 million.
