Exactly how bad are 20th Century Fox?
There has been so many articles of late bashing Fox, from directors to troubled productions and of course their summer resume, but really how bad are Fox? This year they did have Horton and WHIV and Max Payne looks good in the near future. In the past few years their resume isn't as bad as their reputation is made out to be, after all they did have the following ciritcal and financial successes: Live Free or Die Hard Alvin and the Chipmunks Night at the Museum The Devil Wears Prada The Simpsons Movie Borat Ice Age 2 Robots Mr and Mrs Smith Fantastic Four The Star Wars films The Day After Tomorrow I, Robot Dodgeball X Men and X Men 2 etc
So I mean is it just a few of their latest projects which people seem to have a problem with or what? Did the CEO fellow who has been meddling around decide to intensify his interference this year? Is there anything wrong with Fox?
I'm asking all of this because although I've been led to believe of late that everything Fox touches burns, their past projects say otherwise, so I'm wondering where exactly the cancer is, so to speak. Do they treat some directors with contempt and others with freedom?

Also, lest people forget, they were behind the curse that was "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen". I think what it means for me to know the answer is whether anything coming from Fox was creatively done or were they forced to do them by the suits. So were DWP, LFoDH, X2 etc just lucky decisions by the suits or were the directors given the benefit of the doubt?

Re: Exactly how bad are 20th Century Fox?
They've just had an off summer, that's all. Their line-up was complete shit.
What Happens in Vegas The Happening Meet Dave Space Chimps The X-Files: I Want to Believe Mirrors The Rocker Babylon A.D.
No real projects here that were destined to do more than $100m except maybe The Happening (but, then again, maybe not - M. Night was on a downward trend, $65m is still a solid total). And, an unjustified amount of money was spent on some of these projects. The rest of their '08 schedule looks alright.
Taken (if it's still being released, might make like $25-30m) City of Ember (not gonna do well) Max Payne (should pull solid numbers, $40-55m) Australia (potential to do $100m+, Oscar potential, etc.) The Day the Earth Stood Still ($150m+ is possible) Marley & Me ($60m+)

They had a bad summer is all. And yeah, they just had a ton of crappy projects to release.
I think MARLEY & ME is a 100 Million grosser.

But do they treat every project the same? I find it hard to believe that if they interfere with every project the results range from the very best to the extreme worst.

Re: Exactly how bad are 20th Century Fox?
As others have said, yes, they had a very bad summer reminiscent of Universal's staggeringly bad performance in 1998. If they didn't have What Happens in Vegas, they wouldn't even have a solid hit to their name all summer.
But, again as others have said, their end of the year schedule looks promising. Australia, The Day the Earth Stood Still and Marley & Me (especially with a Christmas release for the latter) all have potential.

Yeah, the Christmas release will help out Marley & Me a lot, which is why I think it has a great shot at 100 Million. I'll be surprised if it doesn't get there.
