 Toy Story 3 Plot Revealed
Quote: It's not often you get movie scoops from publications like The Wall Street Journal, being, as they are, more enamoured of bar graphs than Batman. But the US publication recently ran an article about Disney Pixar no longer outsourcing their video game tie-ins and, almost in passing, revealed the much guarded plot to Toy Story 3. According to the Journal, in the third movie "Woody the cowboy and his toy-box friends are dumped in a day-care center after their owner, Andy, leaves for college". That sounds much like a spin on Jesse the Cowgirl's arc in Toy Story 2, where she was abandoned by her grown up owner (we can't think of a less harsh sounding term) and ended up in a junk sale. It's a good path for the third and possibly final film. It could potentially bring the story of Woody and Buzz full circle, if they eventually end up in the hands of a new child to love them. It does, however, show that a lot of time's passed between Toy Story 2 and the new movie, since Andy was no more than 12 in that film. What would that mean for the toy characters? Will Woody be falling apart? Will all Buzz's paint be worn to nothing. God knows, after a few years, all our childhood toys were chewed, run over and generally scarred from too many interactions with the dog or waste disposal. http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=22039

I like it. Not shying away from the time gap between films and incorporating that into the film is a good idea.

Lots of potential here. My anticipation just spiked huge, from about 20% to 75%.

Re: Toy Story 3 Plot Revealed
Pixar really really knows how to make a sequel a part of the whole story. Can't wait.

boring.
Pixar realized that they cannot churn $300+ million movies now, so they have to go back and make a sequel to toy story.

Disney was originally going to handle it outside of Pixar's offices, but Pixar insisted that it was handled on home turf. They didn't want Disney to tarnish the reputation that they had setup with the first two movies. If anything, Pixar is doing this out of love and to ensure quality. I really doubt they give a rats ass about the money (although $300 doesn't hurt )

I don't know if you made that joke out of knowledge of this, but the original plot when Pixar wasn't handling it was about Buzz being recalled after he starts malfunctioning, and the gang heading off to Asia to save him. This new plot sounds much much better, and far more poignant. I'll probably cry.

I just came up with something that sounded completely ridiculous and annoying.

My sarcastic comment was (obviously) a reaction to the hymn of praise that the plot garnered, which is something everybody could have come up with. Like you stated yourself, what do you expect (other than a natural progression of the story)? It's like every decision Pixar makes is brilliant, Nemo is a clownfish - brilliant!, Remy is blue(-ish) - brilliant!... I bet had this not been from them the response would be wholly different ("Disney is ripping off Jesse's story from TS2" or something like that).

I bet had this not been from them the response would be wholly different ("Disney is ripping off Jesse's story from TS2" or something like that). I'm not as big a fan of Ratatouille as the rest of the board is. I waited until the end of the year to even see it, and even then I had downloaded it. I just wasn't into the idea enough to go out and rent it. I also don't buy into the Wall-E hype much. I do to an extent - the shots and the animations shown so far have looked really good - but I refuse to start hailing it as the greatest movie of all time with only a few pieces of conceptual art and a few pieces of animation in the odd trailer-that's-not-a-trailer. I understand your ambivalence about the project, or at least the point you are trying to make, but some people are genuinely excited about the idea that Pixar came up with.
