I expected them to be good as many said, and I'm not surprised that these films have high ratings everywhere. I thought two originals of their trilogy are okay (at least Back to the Future is better than Godfather). But somehow, I feel a bit bored or careless whenever I watch both of them, esp. when the subplots appear onscreen.

In my knowledge, people generally dont rate Back to the Future that highly, but Godfather they do, and it annoys me a little, although Godfather is good.

Godfather = Over-rated by 0.2

Back to the Future = Under-rated, a little.

Try to post something more intelligent than accusing a film of being "overrated". The rampant use of that word is absolutely sickening.

Well andaroo, as I understood it, this is more or less to mimick the several "This film is overrated" threads that already run rampant.

Godfather is not overrated and Neither is B2TF. In fact The Godfather is the definition of moviemaking at its best.

Taken in context of when it was released, the Godfather is very good. However, when viewed in context with newer mob-style movies (like Goodfellas), it loses a little of it's bite. The Godfather was once considered a very shocking and violent film, but it seems very tame by today's standards. I do think it is rather slow at times, but it is overall a good story.

As for Back to the Future, I think that movie holds up well. I saw it again after the DVDs were released and enjoyed it as much as I did when it was released.

First time i saw godfather ... i thought it was a sad peice of movie. I got the chance to see it again and thought it was well made, and a great movie for its time but overrated by today's standards. Thats my opinion and i stick to it.

Back to the future .. a classic ....

I hope you guys are talking about the two 1st films of their trilogies because I don't intend to post a thread about both trilogies.

As for both 1st films, I guess the idea, acting, directing, producing, and writing is pretty good or alright. But I felt I need more interest in both of them than before because I'm getting a sense of losing my admiration of either one or two films.

I guess my problem is that if you can see (and your clearly can) that these films have the hallmarks of being great films and that in general a lot of people appreciate them, why are you accusing them of being overrated.

An example for me is 2001. I really do not like that film. Although, I'm concious enough of its qualities and my own tastes in order to say that my opinions on it are really not as informed as others and my tastes on the matter are really invalid outside my own personal movie collection.

I don't know... I think a better way to approach this topic would have been to post something like... "Tell me why you like Godfather, Part I or Back to the Future" and trying to get a dialog going, rather than coming out and saying that they are (to you) "overrated" and expect others to go on the defensive.
