BOM/KJ Motion Picture Awards of 2004!
Yep, it's that time again. The same awards ceremony we have done once (or twice) before. Cotten reminded me about it at BOM, so I started it up again. Time to vote for your favourite movies and actors and give your opinion!
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/forums/vie ... tm?t=47162
It would probably be easier for us (Cotten and me) if you sent in your nomination ballot there, but if you cannot or would prefer to send it to me here, that is fine as well! It's at BOM, but it's so it can include BOM members still there, and ex-BOM members here. Everything will be held here as well (nominations, winners, etc. will be posted here as well).
Thanks to everyone who participates and sends in a nomination ballot! We appreciate it very, very much.
The post, if you have to do it all here:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cotten has reminded me to start up another awards show for Box Office Mojo! Another year of great films has passed, and it is time again to run our BOM Motion Picture Awards to see what this community thinks of the movies that have played out this year. We obviously all adore films because we spend the time to track the box office of many films, so let's hear what you guys think! We can only get a true opinion if everyone participates!
The categories are essentially the same as the Oscars. I apologize if you wanted a category like "Best Action Scene" or "Best Kissing Scene" or things like that, but really, that is what MTV is for. We like to run with traditional categories that cover everything about film, and it has been successful before! This year there doesn't seem to be one big blockbuster that will dominate the awards. What's the best film this year, according to the wonderful posters of Box Office Mojo? Who has stood out in terms of acting? What films have proved great in technical achievements? What's your opinion?
HOW TO VOTE:
1. Copy the categories and fill in your nominees. You may nominate up to FIVE nominees per category, NO MORE. You must have AT LEAST THREE nominees per category for your ballot to be accepted.
2. You may nominate any films/people from films released in the year 2004.
3. If there are some categories that you just can't fill out (for example, Best Foreign Film is sometimes hard), then that's fine, you may leave a few blank if you really cannot think of any nominees for them.
4. Send your nominee ballots to Cotton or MikeQ. via Private Messenger.5. Nominee voting deadline is January 30th.
THE CATEGORIES:
Best Picture(This can include Foreign or Animated films if you think they are worthy of Best Picture, even though they have their own category.)
Best Director Best Actor Best Actress Best Actor in a Supporting Role Best Actress in a Supporting Role Best Original Screenplay Best Adapted Screenplay Best Foreign Film Best Animated Film Best Documentary Best Film Editing Best Sound/Sound Editing Best Special Effects Best Art Direction Best Cinematography Best Costume Design Best Makeup Best Score Best Song The 2004 Achievement Award (this is to be awarded to whoever you think has had a great year in the film industry and deserves recognition. Examples include Ben Stiller for his 4 film streak, Jamie Foxx's double Oscar worthy performances, Kate Winslet's double Oscar worthy performances, etc. The Achievement Award can go to ANYONE, including directors, animation voicers, Makeup person, etc. for any reason you seem fit. They don't have to have been in more than one film or anything, just have done anything that you think is an achievement and should be recognized.)
Thanks for participating!
PEACE, Mike

That's too bad. You can still send in nominees here to me, so it's no problem.

Yeah, Mav already has it covered. He made a thread in the Watercooler more than two weeks ago.

Well someone needs to speak with Mav, because I had been talking with him before the new year and he said he was very busy with other obligations, and wasn't sure how often he would pop in here.
So that might now be happening, in which case Mike Q and Cotten could do it. Ask Xia, maybe he will join the three of you guys. Trust me, the more the merrier...hehe, unless you're Lecter and just had to deal with more first-time counters that were throwing big fit episodes.
Three of you could do it. Once that's settled, please let me know and pm me one ballot. BJ and I are becoming pros at sending them to everyone so we just need a copy. It seems to work best that way as Lecter said when he counted BOM awards they had a tiny turnout (considering the amount of members) in comparison to the 57 we got out of a 250 man forum. So we'll do it for you three as well (or whoever is running this) if you let us know.
I'm going to have to wait until late Jan to vote, because I'm trying to cram in so much viewings right now to make up for how little I've seen since summer.

Well, I haven't seen Maverikk here in a long while, nor has Maverikk or xiayun started anything up at all. Whatever. Go ahead and delete my thread, I really don't care. You guys can choose to do whatever you'd like. Sorry to xiayun and Maverikk for the intrusion.
PEACE, Mike

heres the thing.
there was a general consensus that these awards should take place a little later than they used to during the BOM years ... mainly because
a) A lot of good movies this time were indies and many people here prolly wont see them till they could be rented
b) drop some oscar categories and add new ones
so the decision was taken to have nominations after the oscars are held.
I'll track down maverikk but i know i offered this to xia.
i also know that lecter was thinking about doing this too with matatonio and someone else but sigh ....
anyway, thats why nothing has been started up as of yet. i'll get some more info on this soon.

That's the thread, Mike. After some discussion, the idea is to run it on Feb or March to give enough time for people to catch all the late release films. Personally, I like to do it before Oscar since that signals the end of award season, and oscar could affect people's opinion (either for or backslash against the winners), but I know comparing to users at OscarWatch, a smaller portion of people here rush out to see all the indie/limited/foreign films, so we need to give people more time. Also we have a lot of international friends who face different release schedules than here in the states.
As for who will run the award, it doesn't really matter to me. Mav was mentioned because he started the public discussion, I was mentioned because bABA asked me through PM a couple of days before Mav started the thread, and Lecter was because he already prepared for such a thread earlier on and asked a couple of other people (matatonio and Zingaling) to help. Either way, the discussion hasn't been back on the table due to all the holidays, and I expect there will be more discussion in upcoming weeks.

No, there's no reason. It's not a big deal. Obviously xiayun and Maverikk called it first, so I'm not going to interfere. Cotton and I will run ours at BOM, and you guys here can do what you wish.
PEACE, Mike

Sorry about that, Mike. To be honest, I was looking forward to MikeQ. running things, but I thought it was KJ exclusive. Either way, though. I hope you aren't mad about it, and hopefully you'll still participate!

I told mike, and ill tell anyone else.
I really have no part in the movie awards, whoever decides to run it, if you need any help from me feel free to ask.
If you guys want to do a dual BOM/KJ thing thats totally fine by me. If you make it KJ exclusive ditto.
I think the big issue right now is time, since people here seem to want to wait, and BOm wants to go now, maybe the answer lies somewhere in between.

Yeah, Mike, hope you don't feel we're taking away a tradition that you have always been a big part of. At the time the subject was opened, you hadn't decided to actively participate in this forum as you currently do, and it was time to start the discussion toward the end of December. So when you opened this thread, a few of people were kind to point out that the topic had been discussed. No other hard feeling was meant by those comments. I'll be very happy to see both BOM and KJ people in this. Most who plan to participate here would've participated the BOM's one most likely if the whole banning/departing thing hadn't happened.
