EW's "Top 20 Scariest Horror Films of All-Time"
http://www.ew.com/ew/article/commentary ... 0_,00.html
Solid list, though I don't consider Se7en as a horror film.

I think in the case of most films, they mistook scary for "disturbing". Se7en, Silence of the Lambs, Texas Chainsaw Massacre are disturbing, but not even slightly scary.
As I clicked on the link, I knew this inept piece of overrated crap that is The Exorcist would appear on there. Bleh.
Also, it is a very predictable list. Very very predictable.

time to give this one another try. how anyone can deny that this is a stunningly well crafted film is beyond me.

None of those movies are scary except for THE SHINING and THE HITCHER.

The inclusion of Lost Highway makes me want to have this list's babies.
Seriously, Lynch is continuously making some of the scariest shit out there, and it's perpetually ignored by most horror fans because it's not straight forward scares.
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me is particularly terrifying.

Fire Walk with Me is not very good.

Didn't they do a list like this not that long ago?
I'm pretty sure they made the top 30 best horror movies ever when that awful Haunting remake came out.

It`s easy to trash The Exorcist when you probably were born in the 80`s and only saw the movie in the 90`s.
But now imagine watching The Exorcist for the first time in 1973 , were the only good horror movies at the time were Psycho , Night of the Living Dead and Roseamry`s Baby.Forget everything done ever since.
I bet you would`ve loved the Exorcist.

baumer thinks The Exorcist is overrated as well, and he wasn't born in the 1980's.

The exorcist is my #1 horror film of alltime but i admit its not everyones cup of tea.
IMO The Shining and Rosemary's baby are the most overrated ever.

I judge films by how they are, how they hold up. I think an "old" horror movie like A Nightmare on the Elm Street or Rosemary's Baby can still be good/very good. The Exorcist just isn't...

The Exorcist holds up a hell of a better better than A Nightmare On Elm Street does.

the best age for watching a nightmare on elm street ist probably 10 to 12. i couldnt sleep for weeks when i watched it back then. i still think its a solid, even original slasher flick, but nowhere near the very best horror films.

Excellent list. Love the inclusions of Halloween, The Exorcist(it IS brilliant ), Psycho, Jaws, Carrie, Nightmare, TCM, The Shining, Silence of the Lambs, ... damn... that could be my list!
Quote: In the film's creepiest scene, a man with no eyebrows, hauntingly played by Robert Blake (!), introduces himself to Pullman at a party and announces that he's also standing miles away in Pullman's house at that very moment. When our disbelieving hero places a phone call and realizes the guy's not kidding, you've got to chuckle to keep from losing your mind.
So true... that scene alone explains Lost Highway's inclusion in here...

What i really dont like about that list is that they include Seven and Silence of the Lambs.
Aliens is missing on that list.
It`s far more scarier and more of a horror movie then those two.
Also , i would put The Ring in there ( to me , the best horror movie of the 21st century )
Switch Seven with Aliens and Silence of the Lambs with The Ring and that could be my list.

Aliens is an action film, not a horror film. Seven is much scarier than it.
I agree The Ring is more horror than both Seven and Silence of the Lambs though.
