 New Director for AVP2
Quote: IGN FilmForce first reported the news that 20th Century Fox may have signed special effects artists-turned-directors Greg and Colin Strause (aka the Brothers Strause) to helm Alien vs. Predator 2 (aka "AVP2"). The brothers themselves have now confirmed the news at their official website.
In addition to their award-winning work as music video and commercial directors, the Brothers Strause also run Hydraulx, which has provided special effects work for such Fox films as X-Men: The Last Stand, Fantastic Four and The Day After Tomorrow.
The studio has the sequel scheduled for an August 10, 2007 release.
I'm...well, I don't know. I guess this could work, as I really don't care if "The Man" works on this project or not, but I'm not confident about this one at all.

I have no problem with music video directors. Besides give it 20 years and every director in hollywood (for studio films) will have had their start in music videos or commercials. Either that or they will have the same sort of style.

The only work of their's that I've seen is the Crawling video, and it was fairly well directed. It showed a lot more constraint than you see with most music videos.
This could be a good decision.

First of all, if the script that was posted at AICN several weeks back for AVP II was in fact legit?? Then NO, in no way will I support this piece of shi* sequel and furthermore, I won't in any way shape or form hype this, not even the tiniest bit unless FOX takes the sequel to another World and NOT some goddamn WALMART in Texas out in the middle of nofuc*ingwhere.. Piss on this and Paul "The Man" Anderson probably saw the script treatment FOX ponied up and says screw this to.. I don't blame him since afterall, he is the consummate Director and is the BEST in his league when it comes to the Videogame Movie Genre.. Uwe Boll should learn from this guy..

Um, didn't you post a while ago that the "Walmart in Texas" script was no longer happening?

FOX pulled that script treatment which was posted at AICN and prior to them pulling it, the script treatmenr received ALOT of negative reactions and rightfully so cause really, it did Suck when comapred to the Uniqueness of the story in the 1st movie with the Underground Pyramid and the Ritual and Rites of Passage Hunt Every 100 Years and THAT was more like something out of DARKHORSE Comics.. This Sequel, provided the script is true, is a piece of buffalo dung and both myself and "The Man" won't have anything to do with this.. Piss on Tom Rothman.. Is there an Emoticon for that???

It's going to be a "serious, gritty horror film", apparently.

OH CRAP!!!
I don't want it to be a HORROR film.
I want it to be an action packed visually cool looking movie +serious+intense moviewith tons of alien and predator fight scenes which the first AVP lacked but still had some really good moments.
I don't want it to be an OLD SCHOOL HORROR movie.

'Alien vs Predator 2' a Serious, Gritty Horror Film?! Get more on Alien Vs Predator | Posted 06.08.06 @ 07:52 pm ]
it was confirmed yesterday that visual effects pros Greg and Colin Strause have been hired to direct Alien vs. Predator 2 for 20th Century Fox. No other details were known at the time other than the film is aiming for an August 10, 2007 release date. Fingers were crossed that Paul W.S. Anderson would have nothing to do with this sequel (so far so good) -- and this could be the end of both franchises if it doesn't perform. Today Variety made the announcement official, while also scoring more details and worth from the Strause brothers. Read on for the skinny...
Shooting is skedded to begin in September for a summer 2007 release, according to Variety.
"Armageddon" scribe Shane Salerno, who rewrote the original "Alien vs. Predator," wrote the script.
"We really want to take it back to the original 'Alien' and 'Predator' films and make a serious, gritty horror film," Colin Strause said.
"We want to take it back to its roots, without losing sight of the human struggle," added Greg Strause. "That's what made the originals so good."
Davis Entertainment's John Davis and Robbie Brenner are producing. Davis Entertainment also produced the first film in the franchise, as well as "Predator" and "Predator 2."
The Strause brothers own Santa Monica-based visual effects house Hydraulics and have extensive visual effects credits on films including "Titanic," "The Day After Tomorrow" and "X-Men: The Last Stand." They've also directed commercials for Toyota, PlayStation and Coca-Cola.
Their relationship at Fox with newly upped exec VP of production Alex Young was instrumental in bringing them over from f/x work to feature films.
Salerno sold his spec "Reckless" to Fox and is working on an untitled Mark Gordon action pic for the studio.

Ok, so is this the same treatment released at AICN awhile back and then suddenly pulled by FOX when everyone and their brother trashed it with all the WALMART out in the middle of Texas after a crash landing BS was posted then pulled or is it possible that was bogus?? If what I'm reading above is true and none of that garbage about WALMART and the other BS is true, then this will be on it's way back to holy hell Hype from me, BUT only if AICN and it's posting of that script treatment aren't true.. 1 last thing: I'm not happy that "The Man" isn't onboard.. Contrary to what everyine says, AVP kicked ass and if anyone ruined the movie, it wasn't Anderson but the fans for having too high of expectations..

They obviously are just trying to say it's gonna play out similar to the original films and not like the last AVP film.

It would be awesome if they just ditched the sequel and did a re-boot of the franchise as is with either Ridley Scott or James Cameron directing. That way, it would be a solid R with all the stuff that made the first two Alien films (and first Predator film) so enjoyable. Unfortunately, that will never happen...
