Why are Madagascar and The Wild so much alike???
I know this has been talked about, but I wondering if there was a studio disagreement or something on a script. The Wild practically rips off Madagascar in every nature. They have a ship, New York, an island, and almost the same type of main animal characters. What's going on here???

It used to be the other way around.
Disney did Bugs Life and Dreamworks did Antz
Disney did Treasure Planet and Dreamworks did Sinbad
I wonder if maybe Disney's was in production for a much longer time and then Dreamworks rushed out Madagascar (in the same way they did with Antz). I mean, it would fit the pattern.

A major difference was the fact that A Bug's Life and Antz were both good. Something I'm guessing probably doesn't apply to The Wild, considering it certainly did not factor in Madagascar.

I think Madagascar was made by a different company, and Disney is just distributing it. Lookin' like a bad buy now.

Antz came out before a bug's Life.

Yes, but there's more to it than that. Bugs Life had been in production for years, since Pixar takes its time and does their films right. Then Dreamworks announced Antz and set a release date for after Bugs Life. About six months before the announced release date of Antz, Dreamworks suddenly moved up its release date to before Bugs Life.
Trust me, I did an article about this for my magazine Animato back in the day.
(By the way, there is a new book on Dreamworks that will be released by the end of the year -- the author spoke to me about it and apparently I will be quoted in the book!)

Not really; I don't even know the guy that well. I met him at a convention and he knew who I was and we talked. Mostly he was interested in when I said in Entertainment Weekly that "Prince of Egypt" would have to be "DeMille meets th second Coming" (or something like that) in order to compete with Disney -- and then Dreamwork's head of publicity sent me a nasty personal letter about my opinion. So apparently there will be gossip!

Back on topic...
Instead of one studio copying another, perhaps one salesman(creative talent) sold two similar products to two different studios... He doubles his money, right??
Please see Cast of Characters/ League of Extraordinary Gentlemen... Same idea sold twice!!!
intheknow.......

I'll note even more that it seems to be really ripping off Finding Nemo and Madagascar. Though I think it still looks funny. Im still not going though. I could see it opening over 30 million though.

It's not ripping off Finding Nemo since they're being produced by the same company.

I don't consider Pixar and Disney as the same company. Disney just distributes Pixar films.

Well, I'm pretty sure THE WILD is an Eisner hold over. Or im fucking hoping so because if not then theres no hope for the future of Disney's motion picture department.

For shares yes, making Steve Jobs the largest shareholder of Disney.
HAs the transaction been completed yet though?
