Half-Decade Film Awards (Noms Announced TONIGHT:Coming Soon)
Half-Decade (2000-2004) Film Awards
These are what I like to call the Half-Decade Awards, for the year 2000-2004 (5 years = half of a decade). These will function like any regular yearly film awards, where you nominate films and actors and directors, etc; except in this case, it is for over the course of 5 years (year 2000 to 2004), not just one. I have started them now to get them done before the 2005 film awards would start (assuming they will start around late February, early March to give people a chance to view the films).
Participate if you'd like; the more, the merrier. These are just something I personally wanted to run. If they don't work, they don't work. But hopefully some will be interested. Thanks.
- So, the following are the categories. The deadline for the nomination process will be Midnight of April 1st, 2006.
- Send all ballots to me, via PM, with the title "Half-Decade Awards Noms" please. There are 12 categories.
- If you are unable to fill out a category, then don't worry about it. But please try your best. It shouldn't be too hard since you have FIVE years of films worth. Heh.
Best Picture Best Director Best Lead Actor Performance Best Lead Actress Performance Best Supporting Actor Performance Best Supporting Actress Performance Best Score/Music Best Visual Effects Best Foreign Film
(10 nominees each, specific films/roles)
Best Overall Director Best Overall Actor Best Overall Actress
(5 nominees each, overall resume during the 5 years)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Examples for the overall categories (you are not required to list their films, I only do so to show you what I mean):
Best Overall Director
- Steven Spielberg (A.I. Artificial Intelligence, Minority Report, Catch Me If You Can, The Terminal)
- Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Hannibal, Black Hawk Down, Matchstick Men, Kingdom of Heaven)
Best Overall Actor
- Denzel Washington (Remember the Titans, Training Day, John Q., Antwone Fisher, Out of Time, Man on Fire, The Manchurian Candidate)
- Peter Sarsgaard (Empire, Shattered Glass, Garden State, Kinsey)
Best Overall Actress
- Kate Winslet (Iris, Enigma, The Life of David Gale, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Finding Neverland)
- Meryl Streep (Adaptation, The Hours, The Manchurian Candidate, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events)
ANY other questions? Just ask.
PEACE, Mike.

Yeah, I know. I'm doing 2000-2004 though. 2005 just ended, so I don't think it is appropriate.
The definition of decade is "a period of 10 years". So 5 years is half a decade. It doesn't have to start at 2001, even though are right, the new century start 2001, I agree.
PEACE, Mike.

You should just change the name to the Lord of the Rings awards.

Well, if you participate, you can help stop Lord of the Rings! Hehe. I think it's power will be diluted because of the fact that the awards covers 5 years. There are a few other films just at the top of my head that I am thinking of now that I know I would place above Lord of the Rings, and everyone knows I love that trilogy.
There seems to be plenty of people on the site too who thinks Lord of the Rings is overrated, so if everyone participates, who knows.
Oh, and also, if Lord of the Rings did top, so what? Heh. That clearly means a lot of people loved it, and that is their opinion, which is what we are after when we make these awards.
Hoping you will participate though!
PEACE, Mike.

haha...my anti LOTR crusading days are over. I'm sure it would get plenty of votes from me, considering how high I regard the first one and the second one. My comment wasn't meant as a knock on the movies, I just see LOTR dominating most categories. I'd put money on it, in fact.

I'd be willing to bet that if you polled a hundred critics -- most of whom could never be categorized as fanboys by any stretch of the imagintaion -- LOTR would dominate with them as well.

Mike,
no offense but I dont think you should start an awards show since you have another voting poll for "best director" that you havent finished yet. Its still at round 7 for months now. I dont know if even this awards vote will be completed at all knowing that the "best director" thread you had has been abandoned but when Dolce tried to continue it, you got offended
Dont take it the wrong way

That is true. I am wrong for not finishing that, but at the same time, there were very few people participating in the last few rounds, and is the reason why I kept stalling and stalling, because I did not feel right moving on when so little people even contributed.
Oh, and dolcevita wasn't even contributing by posting her own ballot, along with some others who left too, so what do you expect? It requires contribution.
I'll pull that one up though now that I am doing this one anyways. I've done several poster awards and movie awards now, and not once did I fail to complete them to my utmost ability, so no need to worry about this.
PEACE, Mike.

In a nice surprise, I have received one ballot already! And a very nice one at that, from Alex Young. With his permission, I am posting his ballot as an example, since I think it is really well done and completed. Might stimulate other people to do their ballots.

A good excuse for me to watch/re-watch some movies from that timeframe.

I almost think this should be open ballot...keep this open for discussion or whatever, and have a seperate thread for the ballots, the posts in which can be edited up until the deadline (at which point the thread is closed and the "counters" can "count")
i'm just afraid this is gonna be far, far too intense for me to handle without smore..."examples." plus, i'd hate to have sent this in two weeks ago, since i've already seen a couple things that would certainly have been included today (and wouldnt wanna PM someone a bunch of little edits, yknow?)
but, either way, it's a cool idea, and assuming i've enough time, i'll definitely tryn participate...
