Re: WORLD OF KJ'S 100 GREATEST MOVIES: COMPLETE!
47/100 movies from my list made it in. Though I think many of my real top 100 couldn't make my list because they were not eligilble. Probably 35 of my all time 100 went through...

Re: WORLD OF KJ'S 100 GREATEST MOVIES: COMPLETE!
1. American Beauty 2. All About Eve 3. Garden State 4. The Usual Suspects 5. Moulin Rouge 6. The Princess Bride 7. South Park BLU 8. Cidade De Deus (City of God) 9. Zoolander 10. The Nightmare Before Christmas 11. Mulholland Drive 12. Terminator 2: Judgment Day 13. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 14. The Untouchables 15. Monty Python and the Holy Grail 16. Taxi Driver 17. Groundhog Day 18. High Fidelity 19. Dog Day Afternoon 20. Se7en16/20 is pretty good. Actually on my original top 20 list which also included Gladiator and Pirates, it would've been 18. I saw HF and DDA since then though and while I haven't decided just where in the top 20 they'd be, I wanted to give them the votes because I *think* they're deserving of it, so I put them at the bottom. As for the list, great job Box, and I loved reading it all and the presentation, but... the top 20 WAS as predictable as you could get. It's pretty much exactly how the top 20 was expected to go, though I thought 2001 would get enough #1 votes to make it in there. And put me in the "FUCK LOTR" camp. Just wanted to say it. FOTR, ok, fine. The other 2... arghhhhhhh. I don't get it. At all. I've yet to hear anything that convinces me the LOTR movies are the best of all time, but whateverrrr. For the hell of it... my thoughts on each movie/placing 1 The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King - Oh whatever, fuck ROTK. 2 Raiders Of The Lost Ark - Nice placing, wouldn't be near this high. 3 The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring - Liked it much more than the other 2, still not the 3rd best movie ever. 4 The Godfather - Overrated 5 The Shawshank Redemption - Good, not top 5 or 2nd all time in imdb's case good. 6 Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back - My least favorite of the OT, but still good. 7 The Matrix - High, but expected. 8 Jurassic Park - A wee bit high. 9 Pulp Fiction - Nicceee. 10 American Beauty - YAY TOP 10. Thought it would land a lot lower. Great surprise. 11 Star Wars - Expected, good choice though. 12 Forrest Gump - Wouldn't be this high, but I always watch it when it's on tv. 13 Jaws - Need to see this again 14 Schindler's List - Ok, I don't "get" Schindler's List. Guess that's my confession for the day. Along with this one: Spielberg probably isn't in my top 10 directors, I like his movies but I hardly love any of them. My favorites from his are Last Crusade, Catch me if you Can, and Minority Report. Eh, maybe he'll grow on me. 15 Terminator 2: Judgment Day - Just right. 16 Se7en - Just right 17 Casablanca - Good placing for it. It falls over time for me. 18 The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers - Stupid LOTR 19 The Silence Of The Lambs - Not on my list 20 The Lion King - Good, not this good. 21 Aliens - Awesome 22 Psycho - Great pick 23 Before Sunset - Yay 24 Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind - Yay, higher on my list 25 Batman Begins - ARGH ARGH ARGH 26 Titanic - Surprised to see it so high. 27 2001: A Space Odyssey - Thought it might crack the top 10 with all those #1 votes, but nice placing regardless. 28 Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb - :D 29 Finding Nemo - WHOAAA. Too high. 30 The Truman Show - Great 31 Fight Club - Good 32 Saving Private Ryan - I don't get it. At all. Not part of the Spielberg fan club. 33 Singin' In The Rain - Need to see this. 34 The Godfather Part II - Just right. Better than G1 IMO. 35 Memento - Good 36 The Departed - Argh nooo. I like/love the movie, but way too high. 37 The Incredibles - Shouldn't be this high 38 The Princess Bride - YAY 39 E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial - Good, not this high good. 40 12 Angry Men - Classic. Another I recently saw. 41 Kill Bill: Vol. 1 - Good, not this good 42 Die Hard - Yipee kay yay 43 Laberinto Del Fauno, El (Pan's Labyrinth) - I haven't seen it, but biggest wtf on the list. #43, really? 44 Citizen Kane - Need to see this 45 Vertigo - Just right. Victory to be this high on this list. 46 The Usual Suspects - TOO LOW 47 Back To The Future - Need to see again, but great great great 48 Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl - In my top 25 49 Gladiator - Maximusss 50 Monty Python And The Holy Grail - YAY too low 51 Toy Story - YAY too low 52 Toy Story 2 - YAY too low 53 L.A. Confidential - YAY too low 54 Lawrence Of Arabia - YAY too low 55 Groundhog Day - YAY too low 56 Little Miss Sunshine - Second biggest wtf/whoaaa on the list, even though I voted for it. Surprising for sure. 57 The Wizard Of Oz - Doesn't hold up for me. 58 Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade - Yay 59 Moulin Rouge! - Too low. Thought it would be higher. MR is god. 60 Goodfellas - Gets better with time, TD is better though. 61 Edward Scissorhands - Been a few years 62 Buono, Il Brutto, Il Cattivo, Il (The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly) - Need to see this 63 Children Of Men - no comment 64 Rear Window - Too low 65 Cidade De Deus (City of God) - Too low, but a victory to be on the list. More people need to watch this. 66 Beauty And The Beast - Good. 67 Monsters Inc - Whoaaa. Wasn't expecting this one. 68 Sen To Chihiro No Kamikakushi (Spirited Away) - One of the most overrated movies ever. I said it. 69 A Clockwork Orange - Appreciate it, don't like watching it 70 Speed - Wtf? 71 North By Northwest - Have to see 72 The Shining - Didn't like the changes from the book, though it is a good film. Not up to Strangelove/2001/FMJ masterpiece standards for me though. 73 Alien - YAYYY. Could be higher though. One of the most suspensful non-Hitchcock films I've seen, even beats Hitchcock in some cases. 74 Kill Bill: Vol. 2 - This much lower than Volume 1? Surprising. Decent pick. 75 City Lights - Have to see this, AFI did have an influence here though... and that may be a good thing. 76 Aladdin - I can live with it. 77 Spider-Man 2 - No way. 78 The Nightmare Before Christmas - TOO FUCKING LOW. 79 Scream - Not bad. 80 Taxi Driver - TOO FUCKING LOW. 81 Airplane! - Haven't watched in a while 82 One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest - Still have to see this. 83 Garden State - Low, but I never expected it to be higher. 84 Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi - yay. Low for SW standards though. 85 The Untouchables - TOO LOW. WAY TOO LOW. 86 X2: X-Men United - yay 87 Face/Off - Even though it's on my list... this is a surprise. 88 Office Space - Good, not a classic. 89 King Kong (2005) - Liked it, top 100? Fuckoff. 90 The Terminator - YES. One of the best sci-films ever. Moves higher on my list all the time. 91 Sin City - Stylish, but top 100? Maybe. 92 Who Framed Roger Rabbit - Haven't seen in a long time 93 Chinatown - Overrated. 94 Ferris Bueller's Day Off - Shocking but I find this overrated 95 The Sixth Sense - bleh 96 All About Eve - Too low, but victory to be on this list at all. With me and Levy putting it in the top 5, xiayun and Chuckster top 20, and others like Box and snack supporting it, I would almost think that alone would put it higher though. We must be the ONLY ones who voted for it. 97 The Graduate - I think I put it on my ballot. A movie that gets better the more you look into it. 98 Annie Hall - Funny, wouldn't be on my list. 99 Minority Report - Top 100. One of the better Spielbergs 100 Unbreakable - In my top 100, love it... surprised it made it here One last thing... Halloween didn't make the list? I'm shocked. Also from the where are you files: Anything Coen brothers, anything Brando, It's a Wonderful Life, Boogie Nights, anything Oliver Stone, Reservoir Dogs, and you know, Mulholland Drive.

Re: WORLD OF KJ'S 100 GREATEST MOVIES: COMPLETE!
My Top 20 1. Close Encounters of the Third Kind 2. Raiders of the Lost Ark * 3. Groundhog Day * 4. Star Wars * 5. Back to the Future * 6. Buono, Il Brutto, Il Cattivo, Il (The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly) * 7. The Truman Show * 8. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial * 9. The Shawshank Redemption * 10. Heat 11. Rocky 12. Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back * 13. Jaws * 14. Field of Dreams 15. Kill Bill: Vol. 2 * 16. Fargo 17. Airplane! * 18. Jurassic Park * 19. The Godfather * 20. Halloween 13 films made before 1990. (* = Film's that made it. It's just a coincidence that there happen to be 13 of them) 45 out of my 100 made it. A decent total, but some of the ommisions are glaring. Maybe my eyes are just tired, but Fargo didn't make it? Are you kidding me? Close Encounters I can understand at least because it's one of Spielberg's most underrated films and usually gets lost in the shuffle with his other classics, but no Fargo? I don't even have to point to some of the other films on the list........BUT FARGO DOESN'T GET IN? For those who haven't seen it, go rent it/buy it now, watch it and then kick yourself in the ass for not including it. And no Heat or Halloween... And no offense to those who picked them, but - Unbreakable, Office Space, Face/Off, X2, Monsters Inc., Edward Scissorhands, Gladiator, Pan's Labyrinth and Finding Nemo (While all good films minus ES) shouldn't be anywhere near the Top 100. Face/Off is on my 100 list I'll admit, but out of the films we could've picked from....... Nemo is the only film out of that group that comes close to reaching greatness and even then it shouldn't be ahead of the Toy Story films or The Incredibles. And some of the films on the list are hilarious. Citizen Kane? Chock one up for the AFI pity vote. I'd say overall, great job Box for putting this together, but this list is decent at best.

No Fargo, No Blood Simple, No O Brother, No Hudsucker. Miller's Crossing wasn't even eligible. And sorry, but Kane is one of the few deserving entries, albeit way too low.

Seriously though, what happened to Halloween. I thought people were bananas over that film... top 30 possibility even.

Re: WORLD OF KJ'S 100 GREATEST MOVIES: COMPLETE!
With 35 people voting, you will need more than a pity vote to get a film in, especially as high as Citizen Kane is.
I don't understand why out of all widely perceived great films, Citizen Kane is the one that people always single out as some film only snobs could enjoy, or "you only liked it because you are supposed to." Why couldn't it be accepted that it has passionate fans just like the other films? I understand always being the No. 1 of critics' list creates backlash, but none of the other perennial favorites get it in such degree.

I'm not trying to sound like a film elitist when I say this, because anyone who has ever seen my taste in films, or has looked at my Top 100, would just laugh hysterically at that thought, but look at films 100-81. I'm shocked it made the list at all.

AFI is still the best. They just really need to get American Beauty on there ASAP.

Can you possibly average out each movies rank from the 3 lists... to get an ultimate Top 50 or something?
Also... My Top 20 is fantastic... no matter what you people say!!!

I'm at work now, but in about 9 hours I will post for whom I voted. I think I have about 25 movies that I picked that didn't even made the top 250. Did anyone else vote for Suspiria or I was a Fugitive from a Chain Gang or was I the only one?

I just realized this list is missing Scarface. Also a film I forgot in my top 20, but still, what the hell happened there?

This happened to me, too. Several favorites weren't up for consideration, despite their acclaim. It made it sort of not worthwhile.

If I would of had an eligible ballot, it would've been something like this...
1. The Crying Game 2. Bad Education 3. Vertigo** 4. Brazil* 5. Blow-up** 6. Aliens* 7. Blade Runner* 8. Dangerous Liaisons* 9. 2001: ASO** 10. Three Colors: Red 11. La Dolce Vita** 12. Gattaca 13. All About Eve** 14. Rear Window** 15. L'Avventura** 16. Badlands** 17. Moulin Rouge! 18. Taxi Driver** 19. 2001: ASO** 20. Mona Lisa*
* - before '90 ** - before '80
It's not polished, complete, or as thorough as it will be, but it's mine. :-)

Re: WORLD OF KJ'S 100 GREATEST MOVIES: COMPLETE!
scarface is in my top 100 but a lot of people really dislike the violence and swearing in that film.... Zingaling Scarface is from the 80's its ancient. Quote: Raiders of the Lost Ark (2, 15, 66) The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring (3, 16, 50) The Shawshank Redemption (5, 2, 72) Pulp Fiction (9, 5, 94) Forrest Gump (12, 72, 76) Jaws (13, 88, 56) Schindler's List (14, 6, 8) Casablanca (17, 8, 3) The Silence Of The Lambs (19, 26, 74) Psycho (22, 22, 14) 2001: A Space Odyssey (27, 79, 15) Dr. Strangelove (28, 21, 39) Saving Private Ryan (32, 65, 71) Singin' In the Rain (33, 74, 5) The Godfather: Part II (34, 3, 32) 12 Angry Men (40, 14, 87) Citizen Kane (44, 23, 1) Vertigo (45, 36, 9) Toy Story (51, 182, 99) Lawrence of Arabia (54, 29, 7) Goodfellas (60, 17, 92) Rear Window (64, 13, 48) A Clockwork Orange (69, 50, 70) North by Northwest (71, 24, 55) City Lights (75, 100, 11) Taxi Driver (80, 35, 52) One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (82, 9, 33) The Terminator (90, 198, 52) Chinatown (93, 45, 21) The Sixth Sense (95, 125, 89) All About Eve (96, 82, 28) The Graduate (97, 148, 17) Annie Hall (98, 124, 35) Its a rather fine list there... Movies i am happy to see are Hitchcock's films and 12 angry men and the rather high position of the Godfather and Casablanca. Clearly shows those two are timeless flicks.

Glad to see my #1 vote for Face/Off helped. Ed Wood & Pleasantville should've made it, IMO.
