Aside from Harry Potter, every movie on this page has been great.

This is a little late but.......... Edward Scissorhands? Other than that, like I said before, there hasn't been one I've really disagreed with.

trixster wrote: 21. BRAZIL (Terry Gilliam, 1985)"This is your receipt for your husband... and this is my receipt for your receipt."A wild comic adventure. At once both a mockery of Orwell and a warning of the future much like his. The dry British humour is loads of fun and the colourful images are a real treat. Of course, one must see the original director's version, and not the butchered American version. I've never seen that Brazil cover before.

20. THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (Irvin Kershner, 1980)"I am altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further."The best Star Wars film. Dark, twisted, moody, but with some great action and a killer ending. One of the best twists in modern storytelling that has now become an iconic moment. It has it all and then some. A terrific feat.

19. DARK CITY (Alex Proyas, 1998)"It seems you have discovered your unpleasant nature."A fantastic sci-fi noir. Visually stunning and narratively thought-provoking. I always feel like the ending goes off on too much of a tangent, but the rest of the film is so perfect that it doesn't make that much of a difference. Try to watch this film without comparing it to The Matrix.

18. E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL (Steven Spielberg, 1982)"We're all going to die and they're never going to give me my license!"A wonderfully fantastical and heart-warming film. It's ostensibly a kid's flick, but I always love watching it. It's very funny and incredibly sad at the same time. The ending always chokes me up.

17. THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION (Frank Darabont, 1994)"Get busy living, or get busy dying."Simply one of the greatest films ever made. Everything about this movie just works. It's got a great story, terrific actors, solid direction, and classic moments. There's a reason why it's #2 on the IMDb top 250.

16. UNBREAKABLE (M. Night Shyamalan, 2000)"They say this one has a surprise ending."Shyamalan's best film. Dark and thematic, it's got a slow-moving but well-executed story and a twist that feels genuine. The performances are great and the direction, as always, is superb. One of my favourite scores, as well.

Hmm, the list is becoming more and more unconventional as it goes on, though I still love it. Eternal Sunshine, ESB, Shawshank, Unbreakable =

15. RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (Steven Spielberg, 1981)"Truck? What truck?"Easily the best action/adventure flick ever made. A non-stop thrill ride that never lets up on the excitement or entertainment. It's unmatched by its sequels or its copiers in the sheer ingenuity of its action scenes. Spielberg's best film.

14. SHAUN OF THE DEAD (Edgar Wright, 2004)"You're the one that's gone from being a chartered accountant to Charlton Heston!" "I'm not a chartered accountant!" "Well, you look like one!"The funniest film I've seen and also one of the most brilliant screenplays ever written. The way that everything is either referencing something else or is foreshadowing something later in the film is simply fantastic. You really have to watch it multiple times to pick everything up. It's hilarious and it's also an honest-to-goodness real zombie film. That makes it brilliant.

13. THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING (Peter Jackson, 2001)"It is a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing."The best film of the best trilogy. Works as a complete story as well as part of a whole. Stunning visuals and a terrific cast. Less action than the other two, but more memorable scenes. A fantastic accomplishment.

Re: KJ User's Top 100 Lists: trixster!
12. THE SHINING (Stanley Kubrick, 1980)"God, I'd give anything for a drink. I'd give my god-damned soul for just a glass of beer."One of the scariest films ever and also the best adaptation of a Stephen King novel, even if it is the least-faithful. Nicholson single-handedly drives the film, as neither his wife or kid are very likeable, and Kubrick's bizarre imagery and strange direction makes the film even more terrifying. Though it changes a lot from the novel, I think it manages to keep most of the themes, even if King himself doesn't think so. Both are just as scary, though.

11. SE7EN (David Fincher, 1995)"Wanting people to listen, you can't just tap them on the shoulder anymore. You have to hit them with a sledgehammer, and then you'll notice you've got their strict attention."A disturbingly powerful thriller. John Doe is one of the most cold-blooded and yet strangely one of the most interesting serial killers in recent memory. The chemistry between Pitt and Freeman is terrific and the slow reveal of each of the victims is nerve-wracking. And, of course, the ending is brilliant. Simple and utter brilliance.

Alright, so I think I'll do my top ten tonight as I'm going back to work tomorrow, and also I want to do it at a time when there'll be a bunch of people here. So around 7-8ish? Until then, I'll leave you guys to postulate as to what's in my top ten.

Re: KJ User's Top 100 Lists: trixster!
Good stuff so far...these are most likely to make my list also:
